Analiza przypadku Rezerwy Federalnej Stanów Zjednoczonych stwarza historyczny kontekst dla faktów, które spowodowały narastanie międzynarodowego kryzysu finansowego w drugiej połowie obecnej dekady. Zarazem z przykładu Fedu można wyciągnąć wnioski dla polityki stabilnego pieniądza. Wydaje się, że im większa rola rynków finansowych w gospodarce, tym wyraźniej ujawnia się związek między kondycją bankowości komercyjnej oraz koniunkturą na rynkach akcji i – jak pokazuje współczesny boom i załamanie na rynku pożyczek hipotecznych – także na rynku nieruchomości. Wydaje się także, iż w polityce amerykańskiego banku centralnego od bez mała dwudziestu lat faktycznie chodzi nie tyle o ograniczanie inflacji, ani nawet - stabilizację rynków finansowych, co o podtrzymywanie wzrostu gospodarczego.

The analysis of the US Federal Reserve case provides a historical context for facts caused unfolding financial crisis in the second half of current decade. The example of Fed also gives conclusions for the policy of stable currency. It appears that the more significant the role of financial markets in economy is, the more apparent the relation between the shape of commercial banking and stock market situation is. Moreover, as proved by the current boom and bust in mortgage market, the relation concerns real estate market as well. However, it seems that the policy of the US Central Bank pursued for almost the past twenty years has been targeted not at curbing inflation, neither at financial markets stability, but at sustaining the economic growth.
