This research aims to reveal the peculiarities of standardization and organizational principles behind the functioning of Orthodox brotherhoods on the territory of Right-Bank Ukraine from the 1850s to the 1900s. Methods. Methodologically, the authors of the work rely on the principles of novelty, objectivity, and historicism and employ general scientific methods (internal criticism of the sources, analysis, synthesis, generalization). Results. The study revealed that during the second half of the 19th century, the activity of Orthodox brotherhoods on the territories controlled by the Russian Empire was regulated by the law “Basic Rules for the Establishment of the Orthodox Church Brotherhoods” which regulated the prioritized tasks, membership and main vectors of their work. At the beginning of the 20th century, some changes occurred in the social-political life of the Russian Empire, which also affected the position of the Orthodox brotherhoods of Right-Bank Ukraine. Conclusion. The church authorities devoted considerable efforts to revitalizing and restoring the activity of the Orthodox brotherhoods at the beginning of the 20th century. In order to find new solutions to the situation, they discussed the further functioning of the fraternities at the congresses in which participated the representatives of the Orthodox brotherhoods of the western provinces of the Russian Empire. Thus, the church management controlled brotherhoods and channelled them into the required course of action.

The traditional interpretation of the term “non-fiction/official” includes a number of features that are often mandatory for their texts. In modern linguistics the non-fiction/official prose is interpreted differently, which can be traced back to the analysis of the research objects under new aspects. As a result of this process, we can observe that theoretical terms have lost their definitional precision and that their boundaries are often fluid. In the present article the attempt is made to show the relativity of constraint features for non-fiction/official prose using the example of the international document “Charter”, which is characterized from a communicative-pragmatic point of view. In doing so, the peculiarities of pragmatic strategies and tactics of a collective author are taken into account and their use of language in relation to a collective recipient is worked out. The analysis of the communication situation, inherent to a Charter, which typifies the characteristics of the text subtype “Charter”, has pointed out the relativity of characteristics and confirmed it. As an international document, the Charter has the characteristics of a law addressed to professionals as well as to the broad mass of the population. The peculiarity of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages consists in the possibility of choosing the appropriate clause for the activities of the state and municipal organs according to the language-political situation on site, which the Charter as a legal sub-type of the documents “de lege ferenda” with less mandatory Forms character. This feature of the charter has a particularly strong impact on its third part, demonstrating the influence of the pragmatic communication goal on the modification of the text type form in its linguistic form.

The results of initial literature review indicate that elderly persons are underrepresented in the clinical trials on which clinical recommendations are based. This gave stimulus to perform the ‘Increasing the PaRticipation of the ElDerly In Clinical Trials’ (PREDICT) project, financed by the EU within the FP7. The goal of the PREDICT was to study reasons why older people are excluded from clinical trials based on age-related criteria and development of the charter including recommendations to prevent their exclusion. The project gathered investigators from 11 institutions in 9 countries: Czech Republic, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, and the UK. Within the scope of PREDICT, first, to assess the scope of the problem the systematic review of literature was performed, then the opinion shared by the health care professionals, ethicists, and representatives of pharmaceutical industry on the possible reasons of underrepresentation of old people in trials was examined, then finally the opinion of elderly patients and their caregivers were assessed. The analysis of gathered data enabled creation of PREDICT charter which contains recommendations aiming to increase the participation of elderly people in clinical trials

The so-called Second Charter for Hilandar given by Stephen Nemanjić is one of the oldest Serbian documents that preserved to our times. It dates itself on 29th September, but without any year or indiction. Since the publishing of Aleksandar Solovjev's paper in 1925 it had been commonly accepted that the charter was given before 1202 because Stephen Nemanjić could name himself the son-in-law of emperor Alexios III Angelos only before the divorce with Eudokia Angelina. However, in 2010 Đorđe Bubalo has noticed that two later inscriptions – discovered after Solovjev's research – also emphasizes family connections between Nemanjić dynasty and Alexios, so the argument used by Solovjev cannot be held. Therefore, Bubalo has reanalysed the charter and suggested a new dating – to 1207-1208. However, one of his arguments – the Second Charter for Hilandar was used by Sava Nemanjić when writing the Life of Blessed Symeon – has lost its strength as such a relation between these texts is questioned in the newest research. Therefore, the objective of the hereby paper is to provide a new analysis of the Second Charter for Hilandar focused on when and (for the first time) where the document was given. The conclusion is that it happened after the hierophany of St Symeon – most probably on 29th September 1210 in the Hilandar monastery.

Symeona – najprawdopodobniej 29 IX 1210 r. w Chilandarze.

Modern political thinkers have ushered in the theoretical concepts of modern alliances and collective security/defense. Before these political theories were turned into modern organizations, many radical changes had to take place in how international relations were perceived in Europe and the world. These dynamic changes started at the end of the Thirty Years War, with the signing of the Westphalia treaties in 1648, and came to fruition with the forming of the League of Nations in 1920. This article explores this 272 year historical process including its impact on the population of the Baltic Sea countries.
