The objective is to analyze the Borgesian use of the work of Kafka as a reading device: as a series of texts that work to read others and, on the other hand, to establish the reason why the Argentine has selected Franz Kafka for this function.

The Adventures in Wonderland: Alice's translation

EN
The article presents Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as a classical work within the genre of fantasy, or literature of nonsense. The classification is made according to the “five procedures,” postulated for the genre by the American poet and scholar, Susan Stewart. From the point of view of the translator, the procedures make it possible to define the dominant of the book as the tension between the sane protagonist and the mad world of Wonderland. The criterion of dominant, combined by requirements imposed by double readership, makes it possible to characterize Polish translations of the book, which make a translation series. What becomes a challenge for the translator is the wide context of the book, which changes over time. It is possible to trace, within the series, some general tendencies, as well as to demonstrate that, ultimately, translating Alice becomes “translating Alice.”

From the beginning, literature occupied an important place in “Vilnius Daily” (so-called scholar magazine’s pages). The editors of the journal (including Jan and Jędrzej Śniadecki, Euzebiusz Słowacki, Filip Nereusz Golański, Leon Borowski, Ernest Groddeck, Kazimierz Kontrym) who were recruited from the circle of the University of Vilnius are alumni in “the age of lights”. Being heirs to the enlightenment ideals of aesthetics, they appreciated the literary output of their immediate predecessors. These preferences are clearly visible in the literary content of “Vilnius Daily”’, obviously adhering to classical and sentimental tastes. Without a doubt Stanisław Trembecki enjoyed the highest popularity among the Stanislawow creators in those pages. We also encounter there the works of Elżbieta Drużbacka, Ignacy Krasicki, Franciszek Karpiński and Ludwik Kropiński. The Vilnius magazine, appreciating their creative achievements, showed thereby the continuation of eighteen-century literary tradition.

Nadawcy społeczni mają obowiązek emisji audycji o treściach prospołecznych i zgodnych z profilem swej działalności, a estetyka ich przekazów jest konwencjonalna. Aby sprawdzić zasadność tych założeń, poddano jakościowej analizie filmy: The Perfect Wave (Idealna fala), Nasze dzikie serca (Our Wild Hearts) i drugą część serialu When Calls the Heart (Głos serca) emitowane w TV Trwam. Okazało się, że podejmują m.in. tematy: górnictwa, sądownictwa, ojcostwa, ekologii, funkcjonowania służb publicznych. Dokumenty recepcji wskazują na życzliwy odbiór. Sprzeciwy budzi konwencjonalna estetyka tych filmów, rzadziej przesłania religijne i społeczne.

Community broadcasters are obliged to emit pro-social programs in line with their profile, however the aesthetics of their programs and messages is traditional and conventional. To test this assumption, the second season of the TV movies: The Perfect Wave, Nasze dzikie serca and series When Calls the Heart were subjected to qualitative analysis. It was found that they addressed issues of: mining, fatherhood, ecology, and functioning of public services. Analysis of reception indicated a favourable response. Conventional aesthetics of the movies, not so much their religious and social messages, was found to be objectionable by some viewers.
