The paper is focused on the problem of the normative structure of science (R. K. Merton) in the context of current philosophical discussions about the value neutrality of science. It charts the relationship between the cognitive and non-cognitive values that enter into the processes creating scientific knowledge. Following from some feminist epistemological concepts that are critical of the thesis of the value neutrality of science, the author argues in favor of the position that cognitive and non-cognitive values in science are interrelated and that a strict distinction between them is therefore not justified.
