Even though interest rates have fallen and the profitability of savings accounts has declined, the range of savings accounts on offer on the Czech market remains relatively broad due to their popularity, especially among conservative banking clients. The choice of account is not usually only affected by interest rates, but also by other factors, such as the minimum deposit, minimum balance, cash withdrawals, the possibility to open and operate online, various bank fees, etc. The purpose of this article is to compare the savings accounts on offer in the years 2013 and 2018 in the Czech Republic through selected multi-criteria evaluation of alternatives methods and according to different clients’ requirements. The main aim is not only to assess whether the focus of the banks is on a certain type of client (versatility or non-universality of the account parameters), but also to assess the development and changes in the range of products on offer in the given years.

Metafora a zjawisko chiralności

100%
EN
The paper attempts to demonstrate that metaphor fits in A. Kudra’s theory of conceptual pairness, and that it is a chiral object which contains two levels of chirality represented by asymmetric juxtapositions: source domain – target domain (the source domain is a distorted reflection of the object, i.e. of the target domain, which causes a shift in the perception of the source domain), and literal meaning – metaphorical meaning (object – reflection). These features make metaphors an important means of constructing a distorted vision of reality, hence also a chiral object, represented by the sender’s linguistic image of the world. In the case of metaphor, it is important that the sender uses linguistic means, or illusion markers in J. Płuciennik’s terms, which indicate the metaphorical character of the utterance and make it easier for the receiver to realize that what they are dealing with is an asymmetric reflection of the literal meaning, and which allow the sender to distance him or herself from the metaphor if it is perceived as inappropriate.

This paper explicates the precise meaning of weak generic sentences of the form Ks are P, best represented by the Port Royal Puzzle sentence Dutchmen are good sailors. The sentence is true even though the majority of Dutchmen do not know how to sail at all and a fortiori do not sail well. Two observations motivate my analysis. One is that weak generic sentences express a property that “distinguishes the subject referent from other entities that might belong to the same category” (Krifka et al. 1995). This leads to the use of alternative set in my analysis. The other observation is that the scale structure of the predicate P affects the availability of weak generic reading for sentences of the form Ks are P. I argue that the interpretation of weak generic sentences involves: (i) partitioning the set of entities denoted by the bare plural subject based on the property denoted by the predicate P; (ii) partitioning the set of entities alternative to the denotation of the subject in a similar fashion; and (iii) comparing an appropriate partition in (i) to its counterpart in (ii) with respect to the predicate P. The Port Royal Puzzle sentence is true if and only if: those Dutchmen who can sail and who are good at sailing in comparison with the Dutch-internal standard of being good at sailing and those international citizens who can sail and who are good at sailing in comparison to the international standard of being good at sailing are such that the former population generally have better sailing skills than the latter population.

Poetic multilingualism as a variety of polylingualism, in general, is a good material for studying cultural transfers (the process of transferring knowledge between different cultures, professional communities and discourses) from both linguistic and culturological point of views. The creative work of bilingual poets, whose phenomenon has not been studied yet, is one of the guides of intercultural communication. Among such poets, Niko Gomelauri has a prominent place, who made a great contribution to both Georgian and Russian literature, nonetheless, neither Georgian nor Russian philologists study the materials based on his works. Research aims. To draw researchers’ attention to the creative works of a bilingual poet Niko Gomelauri, we present the linguistic analysis of Niko Gomelauri’s five different poems belonging to different genres, define peculiarities of his poetic works and stylistic tendencies. Research methods. Through using semantic and stylistic, descriptive and comparative methods and the analysis of dictionary articles we have thoroughly analysed Gomelauri’s poetic words. Conclusions. Linguistic anaysis of poems of different genres revealed Niko Gomelauri’s peculiar vision. A bilingual poet has a wider world vision, sees deeper and gives his poetic worlds a more philosophical idea or emotional content. The analysis of Gomelauri’s poems showed two stylistic tendencies in his poetry – deeply philosophical and mockery-colloquial

The presented article uses the method of non-weighted average absolute deviation for expressing income inequality in 11 selected Central and Eastern European Countries. Specifically, the analysis of income inequality is done for Poland, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Based on the determination of income inequality in the article an analysis is made concerning the development of income inequality, including the subsequent inter-regional comparison in the context of the degree of income inequality in a given human society and economy. The text of this article is organized in 4 parts, after Introduction follows the analytic chapter where, primarily, the method of non-weighted average absolute deviation is explained. The third part contains the empirical analysis of income inequality, and the Conclusion highlights some major conclusions of detailed analysis made in Chapter 3. The analysis of income distribution of 11 European households between years 2005-2013 and its order is made in deciles basing on empirical data from the Statistics on Living Conditions and Welfare published by Eurostat.

The article introduces the chosen typologies and models of organizational culture which are used worldwide. The aim is to demonstrate common and different characteristics and way of operationalizing of organizational culture for the measurement of research and practice into selected examples of typologies and models of organizational culture. At first general concepts will be summarized and described such as organizational culture, typology and model. Then the survey will be focused on the description of individual typologies and models, which will be compared to each other on the basis of seven defined categories. The categories are following the theoretical base, the speed of the organizational culture measuring, the theory approach, the culture variations, the culture development, the aim and the financial demands. In the article are described advantages and disadvantages of typologies and models, their practical use and topic to which they are responding. The article tries to depict the differences between cultural theories with the use of individual items of organizational culture, which are divided into two areas. First is made of items which are easily observable such as customs, rituals, norms of behavior, the stories of the organization, company heroes or elements of the organizational architecture and equipment. Items of first area express in different extend items of the other part. The other part contains basic convictions, values or attitudes. This items are less observable, because their actual contains is much more sensitive to the question of experience and feeling than knowledge. The first part which contains easily observable items is often better detected with the use of typologies. In general the typologies are more suitable in case when the leadership of organization knows the area which could be a potential risk for the organization. The models are more suitable tools for the measurement of the second area, which contains items which are less observable. This article contains following methods of the typology: The typology of T. B. Deal and A. A. Kennedy, The typology of R. Harrison and Ch. Handy and The typology two-by-two matrix by R. Goffee and G. Jones. In the survey following models are mentioned: The Hofstede´s Multifocus Model, The Seven Levels of Consciousness Model of R. Barrett and The Denison organizational culture model. The methods of the organizational culture measuring are described according to the individual types and dimensions, which are parts of a given method within the description of the methods for measuring are defined advantages and disadvantages of the use of given techniques. The selection of the suitable method is influenced by the organization itself. The organization has decided for the organizational culture measuring. The reasons of this decision are the specific problems and the development of every organization.

Practically everywhere around the world we encounter some form of conflict. The different views, needs, values (whether individuals or the whole society) are causing contradicts in different areas of our lives. Clearly, the conflict is a vital component of the society's life, and each of us was most likely a part of a larger or lesser conflict during his/her life. Conflict is a natural part of our lives which will push us further. Sociology is the study of social relationships, social interaction and culture of everyday life and one of the basic principles says that a constant conflict is vital for society where in the end new balance in the life is found. Mediation is an effective tool for dealing with these conflicts which is mostly used in resolving litigation, but there are other areas of use for mediation, which will be further explained in this document. Although mediation has been placed in our legal relatively recently, it has a rich history and firm place in the life of society. The new history of mediation goes back to the eighteenth century, when this was used as a tool to prevent expensive and time-consuming litigations. The institutionalized form of mediation was introduced for the first time at the beginning of the last century in the United States. Although directive 2008/52/EC of the European Parliament and Council from 21 May 2008 on certain aspects of mediation in civil and commercial matters should ensure a certain unity of national arrangements it is clear, that individual countries have different approach to legislative matters. I believe that it will be interesting to compare our legislation with the other countries but given the scope of the article I will focus only on the few selected states.

In the paper we consider a modification of Sharpe’s method used in classical portfolio analysis for optimal portfolio building. The key idea of the paper is the modification of the classical approach by application of the errors-in-variable model. We assume that both independent (market portfolio return) as well as dependent (given asset’s return) variables are randomly distributed values related with each other by linear relationship and we build the model used for parameters’ estimation. For model evaluation we made a comparison of portfolios comprising nine stocks from Warsaw Stock Exchange, which are built using classical Sharpe’s and proposed method.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the material published on the pages of the Slavonic Review from the end of the 1950s to the beginning of the 1970s, including the broader contexts of research into the Soviet Union and Russian history of the 20th century, and the various reflections and interpretations of it. At the same time, broader contexts, particularly the political ones that naturally had a significant influence upon the journal’s publishing policies, are also analyzed. Not only what was published, but also the authors’ formulations, concepts, and the quality of the work all, naturally, reflected their period, which here means the commencement of the normalization era again that again brought an officially-mandated heavily ideologized editorial policy. Just as the atmosphere in Czechoslovakia transformed, so too did the content journal and the requirements for the quality of its writing, and these transformations were all the more apparent in essays dedicated to research into Soviet history, which we could classify with the term “Sovietology”. It was only in the middle of the 1960s that any change was registered in the scope of Soviet-themed essays, their quality was significantly enhanced, and they reflected the contemporary state of the art for research, encompassing subjects that corresponded with modern research trends in the world. With regard to the expanded horizons of information available these essays also reflect the results of Western research and not only for use in criticizing bourgeois Sovietology.

In recent years, comparative literature has affected a lively response to the dynamic transformations of its socio-cultural environment: it has declared the death of the old discipline and the beginning of a new one, and has increasingly set foot into the realm of the modern digital laboratory. It has, however, too seldom made use of a historical analysis of its own origins, which could have an impact on how future tasks and opportunities in comparative studies are perceived. This paper looks back to the rhetorical legacy of the category of comparison — one of the traditions that led to the institutionalization of comparative studies in the nineteenth century, and which could be useful in an attempt to rewrite the discipline’s history, particularly if grounded in translation studies.

The paper presents the financial issues in Muslim marriage and dissolution of marriage by divorce. Because of the norms regarding inheritance, I do not focus on the law of succession, which also carries very significant financial implications for the heirs of a deceased spouse, and thus issues related to the topic as the subject of the present work. The paper refers frequently to J. Bielawski’s translation of the Koran, as well as to the regulations of the Polish Family and Custody Code and to the literature and Internet sources on that topic. In principle the elaboration has a legal-comparative character.

The Uprising of Imam Shamil is a tragic and vivid event in the history of the Caucasus, hence it is not surprising that writers of different peoples from different times turn to it. This article, with the employment of the comparative method, explores the literary image of Shamil created on the basis of historical events by the Polish writer Jakub Gordon in his historical novel Kaukaz czyli Ostatnie dni Szamyla. Powieść historyczna (1865) and by the Dagestan-Russian writer Mariam Ibragimova in her historical trilogy Imam Shamil (1991). The first novel was written by a contemporary of Polish military-political participants in the Caucasian War, who communicated with its witnesses, the second one – by a compatriot of Shamil, a modern Dagestan and Russian writer. The differences in time, place of writing, aesthetic backgrounds, and nationality of the authors of these two novels created in similar genres foresee some discrepancies in their artistic structure, ideological accents and focus on the displayed events.

The paper is a review of homonymy (in a broad sense of the term) in two Slavic languages: Polish and Belarusian. Different types of homonyms were described and compared. At the beginningof the article one can find many different Polish and Belarusian definitions of homonymy. The examples of homonyms were taken from dictionaries, books and films. The analysis showsthat homonyms in two Slavic languages are very similar but very strong difference one can find inaccent.

Scientific objective of this paper is to analyse how advanced are Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to fight successfully information disorder. More specifically, this is an overview and ranking on existing tools based on AI in this specific area. Research method is comparative analytics. We compare the most developed and publicly available fake-news detecting and fact-checking AI based solutions (intelligent machines). The comparison is based on two key parameters: accuracy and comprehensiveness. Results and conclusions: Analyse show that a third of the examined AI systems are, in terms of comprehensiveness, in the top category, while the majority are in the medium category. As far as accuracy is concerned, very few AI machine developers are interested in providing further details about their products and functionalities for studies such as ours which raises suspicions about their actual performance. Surprisingly, one of the most discussed AI systems among EU leaders seems to actually belong to the least developed. Cognitive value: There is a need for a larger and more detailed study with involvement of AI specialists who would be able, and allowed, to test all available AI machines with their key features and functionalities.

The health care system in Germany is undergoing a phase of transformation. The resulting challenges and fields of action for the hospitals were described as one outcome of a scenario analysis conducted by the author. These include, for example, setting up new organisation structures, professionalising management competence or also developing a comprehensive quality management system. In the following analysis, the hospitals are to be described and compared to one another in terms of their initial conditions regarding these fields of action. The question at the focus is which different prerequisites and options the clinics have subject to their organisational structure.
