Using modern devices and global access to information have become one of the most important areas of people’s lives, especially in case of young people who have been dealing with technology and new media since they were very young. It is hard to imagine life without new information communication technologies. Communicating, making friends, gaining information, entertainment, pursuing hobbies and interests – it all happens through these technologies. Is virtual reality becoming the space of creativity of the young or their escape from real tasks that they should face in everyday life? The paper presents research on the compulsive usage of mobile phones and gives a detailed characteristics of the phenomenon of phonoholism in Masovian voivodship. The underlying research objective is the analysis of the negative effects of the excessive immersion of the users in the Internet and the ubiquitous presence thereof in people’s lives, with a particular emphasis being put on the impact the Internet has on young people. Among others, the research results have displayed low perception of the harmfulness of addiction to a mobile phone among the investigated youth.

There is an analyses of problems caused by a prospect of computer-based education development on a basis of personal-activity approach of children with disabilities in the article. A correlation between general and computer competence is shown. The more exactly defined concept of disability children’s computer competence is presented.

Obok tradycyjnych mediów, jak prasa i radio, pojawiły się nowe, bardziej atrakcyjne dla młodego pokolenia. Są to komputer i Internet, które bez wątpienia zdominowały pozostałe środki masowego przekazu. Są na tyle interesujące dla odbiorców, że wielu zaczyna żyć wirtualnie, a traci kontakt z rzeczywistością. Celem artykułu jest sprawdzenie, w jaki sposób media oddziałują na młodych odbiorców. Ukazano pozytywny i negatywny aspekt mediów. Sprawdzono, jak często dzieci i młodzież korzystają z komunikatorów internetowych i czy jest to dobry sposób komunikowania się z innymi, a także czy postrzegają media i nowe technologie jako zagrożenie dla tradycyjnych książek i czytelnictwa. Wyniki badań ukazują, iż coraz młodsi użytkownicy korzystają z mediów, a ponad połowa ankietowanych poświęca na czytanie mniej niż godzinę dziennie.

Apart from the traditional media such as the press and radio, new and more attractive to young generation ones appeared. These are computer and the Internet, which, without a doubt, dominated other mass media. They are so interesting to viewers that many of them start to live in a virtual world and lose touch with reality. The aim of this article is to check how the media affect young people. The positive as well as negative aspects were demonstrated. It was checked how often children and young people used internet communicators and whether it was a good method of communicating with others as well as whether children and young people perceive the media and new technologies as a threat to traditional books and reading. The results of this study show that younger and younger people use the media and more than half of the surveyed people spend less than an hour a day on reading.
