The processes of technological progress create new opportunities for economic, social and cultural growth, shape new relations between economic entities and their environment, and influence changes in the determinants of entrepreneurship development. These processes vary significantly in certain geographic locations, characterised by an enormous diversity of natural, social, economic and cultural structures. As a consequence, this creates different opportunities and different conditions for the development of entrepreneurship in certain spatial scales, from the continental scale, through national and regional to local scales. The article presents complex conditions for the development of entrepreneurship, highlights its limitations resulting from institutional barriers, and the importance of knowing the mechanisms of mutual relations between spatial systems and the influence of control instruments. The quality of central and local government authorities is of particular significance here, which do not always properly use the mechanisms of rational business support. A serious barrier to the development of entrepreneurship is the low quality of social capital, manifested in a lack of trust in institutional authorities and reluctance to engage in entrepreneurship and business development. The conclusions point out that further research should be developed that will take into account changing business conditions, with a defined strategic goal of raising the quality and standard of living, international competitiveness of the country and products in different market categories.

W artykule dokonano oceny wybranych cech charakteryzujących uwarunkowania rozwoju wielofunkcyjnego rolnictwa na obszarach wiejskich podmiejskich w regionie południowo-wschodniej Polski, gdzie zlokalizowane są badane gospodarstwa rolne. Ponadto zaprezentowano dodatkowe formy działalności wielofunkcyjnej rolników prowadzących oprócz gospodarstwa rolnego także pozarolniczą działalność gospodarczą na tych terenach. Materiał empiryczny artykułu stanowią dane pierwotne oraz wtórne. Pierwotny materiał pozyskano w drodze badań ankietowych gospodarstw rolnych (wywiad z kwestionariuszem z rolnikami), zaś materiał wtórny stanowią przede wszystkim dane z Głównego Urzędu Statystycznego w Warszawie. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały, że obszary wiejskie podmiejskie odznaczają się korzystnymi uwarunkowaniami dla rozwoju wielofunkcyjnego rolnictwa, w tym zwłaszcza demograficznymi. W związku z tym dobrze rozwinięta jest na tych terenach pozarolnicza działalność gospodarcza prowadzona przez rolników, którzy zwykle realizują jeszcze inne dodatkowe formy działalności wielofunkcyjnej, przy czym najczęściej są to działania restrukturyzacyjne. Dodać należy, iż dotyczy to zwłaszcza obszarów wiejskich sąsiadujących z większymi miastami.

The paper makes an assessment of selected development characteristics of multifunctional agriculture typical for rural suburban areas in the South-East of Poland following a sample of farming households in the region. Moreover, it presents supplementary forms of multifunctional activities of farmers who also resort to nonfarming economic enterprise besides regular farming households in the region. Empirically, the paper is based on primary and secondary data. The primary data derives from the findings of survey carried out among farmers (interview with a questionnaire), whereas the secondary data comes from the Central Statistical Office of Poland. The analysis of development patterns among the farming households prove that the rural suburban areas provide favorable conditions, particularly demographic ones, for development of multifunctional agriculture. Hence, presence of abundant forms of nonfarming economic activities are characteristic for these areas; farmers regularly undertake supplementary forms of multifunctional agriculture, most often related to restructuring their households. This pattern of development is typical of the rural areas in the vicinity of large cities.

W pracy podjęto problematykę wpływu międzynarodowych uwarunkowań na funkcjonowanie przedsiębiorstw przemysłowych. Określono funkcje przedsiębiorstw przemysłowych w przestrzeni geograficznej (podstawowe, komplementarne, standardowe, regionalne, lokalne), przedstawiono główne uwarunkowania międzynarodowe i krajowe rozwoju firm (m.in. takie jak: rynki, światowa sytuacja gospodarcza i polityczna, struktura własności, polityka gospodarcza) oraz określono rodzaje powiązań przedsiębiorstwa z otoczeniem międzynarodowym (produktowe, surowcowe, kapitałowe, finansowe, technologiczne, informacyjne, pracy). Przedstawione rozważania potraktowano jako aktualne kierunki badań w dziedzinie geografii przemysłu.

The paper presents the problem of the impact of international determinants on the functioning of industrial enterprises. The author defines the functions of industrial enterprises in the geographical space (basic, complementary, standard, regional, local) and presents the main international and domestic determinants of companies development (including markets, global economic and political situation, ownership structure, economic policy) and types of companies relationships with the international environment (product, raw materials, capital, financial, technological, information, employment). The consideration was treated as current directions of research in the field of industrial geography
