In the article there is presented the connection between the strategy of conflict management and the level of organizational culture in the family business. There was put forward the argument to formalize the family and business relationships by implementing the internal constitution, which helps to manage conflict management effectively. Particularly, it allows to reduce the movement of conflicts between the enterprise and the family by means of the improvement in, among others, the internal communication
The presented study aims to investigate the impact of cultural intelligence on management effectiveness and conflict management styles. The target population of this research includes all senior managers of universities and higher education institutions in Urmia. The nature of the study requires the use of a descriptive-correlational research method. Findings of the study show that there is a significant relationship between cultural intelligence and management effectiveness. Results of stepwise regression analysis show that components of cultural intelligence allow for predicting the avoidance style. Moreover, among the components of cultural intelligence only the metacognitive cultural intelligence allows for predicting management effectiveness.
Project management is an integral part of the life of companies. It helps them to manage projects of different sizes, scopes and financial value irrespective of whether it concerns new products, services, the implementation of new company IT systems, internal processes, etc. Regardless of the project circumstances, there is always a project team, with members drawn from various backgrounds–professional experience, seniority, work ethic, age, and usually gender. However, differences among team members can cause friction. An important factor for success is good, healthy communication, which may include conflicts. Within this context, the project manager, among others, should be a very good conflict solver, or even a trained mediator who can lead constructive conversations. These conversations should enable team members to express their different opinions with the aim of achieving the best possible result, i.e. the prevention of unnecessary conflicts, the minimisation of bad ones, and the reduction of time lost to them. The research presented in this paper shows that managers spend up to 30% of their time managing conflicts, in other words, not doing their job, as is the case for the employees involved in a conflict. As a result, companies suffer from lower productivity and spend money on conflict management activities that in many cases are avoidable.
Syria’s civil war, which began in 2011, has been dubbed one of the bloodiest conflicts of the twenty-first century. A multitude of institutional, regional, and global efforts and activities in the shape of peace proposals, negotiations, diplomatic peace initiatives, and mediations have been put in place in an attempt to end the war. The goal of this research is to look at these peace mechanisms and the elements that function as undercurrents and/or obstacles to their implementation. It claims that a variety of actors, interests, and goals obstruct diverse peace processes. Furthermore, the complex intertwining of internal and external influences is critical to the success of many conflict management programs. The problems faced by many peace processes include the sordid backstories and operations of hidden hands such as the United States and Russia using the war as a pawn to conduct proxy fights including Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and other entities. The conclusion is that, while a political solution is an appropriate vehicle for resolving the quagmire, the effect of foreign interests and complicated internal elements that have a negative impact on political diplomacy may persist for some time. As a result, if a political approach is to be effective, it must take into account and synergize the numerous domestic and exogenous interests.
The object of the analysis of this paper is Qatari mediation. The role of facilitation as a tool of conflict management in Doha’s foreign policy as well as its modus operandi and the conditions for successful facilitation are the main issues examined here. In conclusion, it is revealed that mediation is only one tool of the Qatari foreign policy among many others. Moreover, the presence of the window of opportunity, the conflict parties’ inclusion and cohesion, and the acceptability of an intermediary are crucial for the successful conflict mediation. The use of reward power, the absence of the follow-up mechanism, the trained administrative staff of the foreign policy apparatus, and the war-weariness are the main obstacles for the transformations of Qatari conflict mediation into conflict resolution.

This paper proposes a broad perspective for studying the influence of cultural dimensions and their influence on the process of choosing conflict management styles Definition of both culture and that of conflict are presented. Analytical review of research on the conflict styles and their relation with dimensions of culture are presented in this article. Within the paper following cultural dimensions are considered in the context of conflict management styles: individualism and collectivism, high and low power distance as well as high and low uncertainty avoidance. All models of cultural dimensions are considered within the cultural dimensions framework of Hofstede (1981). In case of individualism there is preference for an avoiding style of conflict management and in collectivist cultures typical choice is that of compromising and obliging conflict style. In case of high power distance avoiding conflict style is likely to be chosen by members of High Power cultures. Few studies cover the problem of power distance and conflict style preference, however, we may assume that the individual will chose conflict style that allows him to maintain either low or high power distance typical for his own culture. Finally the paper shows connection of low uncertainty avoidance and the choice of collaborative and compromising conflict styles. The implications of conflict resolution styles across cultures for the future research and implementation in organizations as well as in international relations are discussed.
Aim. Problems are inevitable in the subtleties of organizational communication, but it does not mean confronting them is uncontrollable. This paper aims to offer a conceptual structure for investigating contingency theory in Public Relations (PR) during an organizational crisis. The research investigates PR practitioners’ use of advocacy and accommodation in contingency theory to intervene in crisis communication. It also offers insights into the public’s emotional response and coping mechanisms during a crisis, as well as how understanding these emotions (such as anger, anxiety, fear, and grief, among others) could aid PR professionals in developing more effective crisis communication methods. Method. Empirical research was conducted on the basis of literature reviews by observing and analyzing the existing literature on contingency theory, crisis communication in organizations, and public emotions. Results. This conceptual paper proposes and empirically tests a few propositions. The implications for future studies are included in the paper. Findings promote the adopting a dual-continuum strategy that might assist public relations professionals in preferring superior crisis management strategies for obtaining desired organizational outcomes. Conclusion. The authors assert that PR professionals must move from embracing Grunig’s four models of excellence to contingency theory for communicating strategically with the public. The authors propose to adopt a dual-continuum approach that varies from advocacy to accommodation and might provide practical guidance to choose a better stance adopted by the organization towards the public during a crisis. The negative emotions of the public influenced by a crisis along with their emotional coping approaches are also discussed.

Conflict between students, as a possible beginning of a crisis situation at school, is an integral part of the school process and is regularly encountered by teachers and professional associates. However, conflict, although it can cause a crisis, opens up opportunities for establishing better and more adequate communication among students as much as it creates space for learning about nonviolent communication, mediation as a form of conflict resolution and assertive representation of their attitudes, beliefs and entrepreneurial competencies. Although some peer conflicts persist only at the student level and possibly teachers in the classroom, when conflicts escalate, the aid from professional school associates such as psychologists or pedagogues is regularly sought. What is the communication role of these professionals in the process of mediation between students, what techniques they use in their counseling work, whether they notice changes in student behavior after mediation, which in their practice proves to be the most successful method of overcoming and understanding conflict - the paper examines all these aspects through in-depth interviews. On the other hand, the paper also analyzes students’ perception through a survey questionnaire. Whether they turn to professional associates for help, how they resolve and manage their conflicts, what they need to overcome conflict, and whether they develop their entrepreneurial competencies are some of the problematic issues of this paper. In an effort to identify the capacity of counseling and the role of mediation of professional associates in peer conflicts at school, Metković High School was selected for research analysis, with the aim of determining the role of pedagogues and psychologists in critical situations of student conflicts through practical examples. The research showed that professional associates have a role in the process of resolving conflicts among students, but there is room for improvement in terms of additional involvement of professional associates in counseling and educating students on the role of mediation in interpersonal communication and entrepreneurship.

The rising costs of educational tasks due to the decreasing number of students force municipal authorities to take cost-saving measures, including the most radical form, that is closing down schools. Such decisions are not popular with the local residents and in all the examined municipalities have caused conflicts between the stakeholders of local educational policy. The aim of the article is to present actions taken by municipal authorities to reduce the negative effects of conflicts arising in connection with the liquidation of schools. The authors focus on the activities of municipal authorities to curb the negative consequences of the conflict, but turn out to be financially ineffective. The article was based on the analysis of the subject literature, as well as the results of empirical research conducted by the authors. The theoretical framework draws on selected concepts of conflict management and the polarity management model.
The aim of this study is to find out whether an approach based on a game theoretical method may promote constructive collaborative conflict management among upper secondary school youth. An additional aim is to investigate how the young people involved in the study experience such an approach. It is an intervention study; the research material has been collected both before and after the intervention. The empirical material has been collected in Sweden using written reports and focus-group interviews. Both quantitative, as well as qualitative methods of analysis have been used. The results of the quantitative analysis demonstrate that the approach tried out in the study may enhance constructive collaborative conflict management. The qualitative analysis concerning the participants’ experience of using the approach show that the investigated approach is for the main part experienced as an asset but can also, in certain contexts, be seen as problematic.

Ta okoliczność prowokuje innych, najczęściej szeregowych pracowników, do destrukcyjnych i kontrproduktywnych zachowań i działań.

The article describes the nature of those conflicts in organization which have been caused by decisions or behavior of the manager or the entity of management. Empirical inquiries (and those which are presented in this article) indicate that numbers of work conflicts emerge as a result of wrong, bad or selfish actions of management. As a rule the individual or the entity which has provoked a dispute becomes one of its parties. In this case instead of trying to analyze and to manage the conflict, he seeks to preserve his face and makes by this the clash deeper. Usually the other parties become destructive and counterproductive in continuing controversy. The article is finalized by some propositions of how to prevent or to positively transform conflicts which belong to described group.

Research on the phenomenon of conflict in business-to-customer relationships is far from maturity. However, in recent years more and more authors draw attention to the importance of the dark side of customer relationships, including relationship conflicts. Studies show that conflict fundamentally influences the quality of the company-customer relationship, and its effective management can contribute not only to maintaining the relationship but even to deepening it. The purpose of this article was to summarize the existing scientific research regarding factors determining conflict handling and as a result the structural model of effective conflict management in the relation between a company and a complainer is presented. It was found that six factors have a particular impact on customer’s response to conflict: consumer assessment of justice of proposed conflict resolution, apologizing, empowerment, the level in which personnel take customer seriously and personnel competence. Furthermore, among results of effective conflict resolution in the relationship between service company and consumer, the most crucial are: desire to continue the cooperation with a company, desire to leave a company/switch to competitors, desire to look for different companies with similar offer and desire for taking revenge in word-of mouth communication. Also the contextual factors, which determine the generality of the presented model are discussed. These factors are: the level of customer’s trust and commitment to a company, the level of customer wealth, the level of perceived significance of company’s products, the evaluation of the level of switching costs and the a availability of alternatives. The model is based mostly on results of quantitative empirical research.

The aim of article is the analysis of conflict management and the mobbing, as organizational factors which condition creativity of employees as well as innovativeness of enterprises. Innova-tiveness of Polish economy is still below the average level of European Union. At the same time numerous signals testify the use of inappropriate methods of conflict management in our enterpris-es. Conflict could arise as a result of different reasons, and their common characteristic is the possibility of blocking the aims and activity of the opponent. No type of conflict is positive corre-lated with innovativeness of team. Particularly intensive and dangerous kind of conflict is mob-bing. It means psychical harassment and the frightening of employee. Mobber’s activities could include the following attacks: on victim’s communication process, his social relation with other persons, his work conditions, his reputation and his health. Mobbing can be applied by owners of firms, managers, colleagues. The aim of mobbing can be obtaining the wide range of beyond contract benefits – from personal (e.g. power) to financial (e.g. decreasing of remuneration cost). The frequent effect is the victim employee quitting. Mobbing has a negative influence on employees’ creativity, which is a condition for enterprises innovativeness. Antimobbing policy should include a preventive part as well as interventionist part. As prevention the enterprise should promote the ethical rules in work environment, initiate the anti–mobbing procedures. The important thing is training of employ-ees. Interventionist actions should include the possibility of the employee to complain and undertake effective activities in order to eliminate mobbing and to punish the mobber.
W artykule autor prezentuje syntezę wcześniejszych badań prymatologicznych poruszających problem uspołecznienia, porządku społecznego i rozwiązywania konfliktów u prymatów innych niż człowiek. Jest to niezbędny kontekst do analizy istniejących mechanizmów utrzymywania porządku społecznego (włączając w to zapobieganie i rozwiązywanie konfliktów) w różnych społecznościach prymatów innych niż człowiek. Zdaniem autora nauki społeczne mogą wiele skorzystać na refleksyjnym i krytycznym zainteresowaniu szerszymi problemami życia społecznego i porządku społecznego poruszanymi w prymatologii.

In this article author presents a synthesis of previous primatological studies concerning problem of sociality, social order and conflict resolution in non human primates. First part contains discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of sociality – treated as a one of the many possible form of living together – from an evolutionary perspective. The question is: what are fitness consequences of sociality? An inherent sources of conflicts (which reduce fitness) associated with the social living are discussed in next part. This is a necessary background for an analyze of an existing mechanisms for maintaining social order (including preventing and solving conflicts) in various non human primates societies. This are very nuanced and not easy to notice at the first glance natural mechanisms which enable to benefit from sociality despite the fact of the huge evolutionary cost of it. As author argues, the social sciences can gain many benefits from reflective and critical interest of the wider problem of sociality and social order discussed in primatology. This is clearly not a comprehensive study on these issues, but rather an attempt to draw attention to the basic topics and try to start interdisciplinary discussion over them.
