The article presents the process of deforming parliamentary democracy in Bulgaria after the First World War. The analysis begins with the presentation of fundamental political principles and relations between the main state institutions in the Tyrnovo Constitution, the fundamental law of Bulgaria in this period. Further, the problems of Bulgarian parliamentarism are discussed. Parliamentary democracy in Bulgaria in the interwar period was deformed by violating the rules of the parliament and subordinating it to party interests. It was further weakened by the usurpation of power (two coups d’état), disrespect for the constitutional principles, and by regulations prohibiting the activity of certain political forces. As a result, Bulgaria has evolved from a parliamentary monarchy that respecting the parliamentary system and procedures to the dictatorship.
Against the background of the dramatic events unfolding in Myanmar/Burma - the military has been pacifying the mass peaceful protests there - the political career of Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, the political leader of Myanmar/Burma in 2016-2021 and previously the most famous political prisoner worldwide, is nearing its end. Once the darling of the Western world, then mercilessly criticised by yesterday supporters, Suu Kyi remains an ambiguous person evoking strong emotions both domestically and internationally. As such Suu Kyi represents a fascinating case study in leadership studies. Using the agency-centred explanation in political studies, this article tries to answer the following questions: what enabled Suu Kyi to take power and which factor contributed to her political fall? Why there is her political demise? Why Suu Kyi enjoyed the West's support and why she lost it? How can we assess her governanance?

The article discusses the relationship between the concepts of “legal security” and “coup d’état” on the basis of the evolution of these concepts over the centuries. The analysis of the terms which the author is interested in, adopted as the subject of this study, leads to the conclusion that, in particular, the concept of “coup d’état” is often mistakenly refereed to as a “revolution” or a “putsch”. A political upheaval, one of the methods of which is a coup d’ état, should be regarded, in the light of the research carried out, as deviating from the concept and character of a social up-heaval. In the case of a political upheaval, the legal security of the individual is usu-ally protected as before, and a possible lack of such security should only be treated as a result of the natural tendency of the individual to protect his or her legal status within a state organisation. It is only with changes of social (class) character, which may be an indirect consequence of a political upheaval, that the addresses of legal norms may have justified concerns about their legal safety.
The biblical tradition has preserved many variants of the Judahite royal names. Some of these variations can be classified as orthographic irregularities, scribal confusions or the misinterpretations of the archival sources. However, there are also some examples that cannot be explained philologically. This applies particularly to the names of the following Judahite kings: Uzziah aka Azariah, Jehoahaz aka Shallum and Mattaniah aka Zedekiah. I suggest that in all three cases we are not dealing with a diversity of onomastic variants, but with six different pretenders to the David’s throne.
The subject of consideration is the political myth of Józef Piłsudski, one of the most controversial figures of Polish politics in the 20th century. The historical, social and psychological background of the legend’s birth, and the influence of this figure, or rather personal myth, on successive political formations in Poland up to the present day, are briefly presented. The essence of the argument is to show the connection between the „legionary legend” and the „genius of the commander” during the Bolshevik war, and the legitimisation of power obtained by overthrowing legitimate parliamentary rule through a coup d’état. The author looks at the paradoxes in perceiving the consequences of the unreflective worship of Piłsudski, and critically assesses the pathology of the Polish national identity based on a falsification of history. He points to the need to deal with hypocritical historiography and harmful legends.

The proclamation of the Republic of Turkey in 1923 initiated the process of building the specific position of the Turkish military in the political system of the state. For decades, the military did not perform a subservient function to the state, as implied by the democratic model of civilian control over the military, but conversely exercised guardianship over the political class. As a result, the generals in Turkey’s modern history have staged four successful military coups, each followed by taking control of the state administration and establishing military regimes. Extremely significant from a historical and political perspective was the military putsch carried out in 1980, the consequences of which are still visible today. The depiction and analysis of this event is the main purpose of the article, and although the time frame could be narrowed to the years 1973–1983, the author also refers to a broader historical perspective to demonstrate the causes and consequences of the events described.

Proklamacja Republiki Turcji w 1923 r. rozpoczęła proces budowania specyficznej pozycji tureckiego wojska w systemie politycznym państwa.
The August 19, 1953 coup in Tehran was a joint British-American secret intelligence operation, planned and executed with the assistance of a group of Iranian royalists. The main objective of the British and US governments was to maintain political influence in Iran without revealing their involvement. These events, regarded as a manifestation of external interference in state policy, occupy an extremely important place in contemporary Iranian historical and political consciousness, determining Iran’s relations with the United States, and thus affecting the security of the entire Middle East region. The author focuses on presenting the three main determinants of the 1953 coup. These include the British-Iranian conflict over the nationalisation of the oil sector carried out by Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, the threat of the country falling into the communist sphere of influence, as well as internal factors, including disputes within the ruling coalition. The paper seeks to answer the questions of how the British policy towards Iran was shaped in relation to the problem of oil exploitation, what were the reasons for American involvement in the clandestine operations of the SIS in Tehran in 1952–1953, and whether the coup could have been the result of the actions of purely internal opposition to Mohammad Mosaddeg

The aim of this paper is to follow and analyze the public discourse on religious minorities in Turkey after the failed coup d’état of 15th July 2016. However either Turkish state’s policy or social attitudes towards these groups have always been controversial and their real position has always differed from their legal status, the author decided to put a hypothesis that the coup attempt is indeed what has significantly affected the way they are being perceived by mass media in Turkey and hence, by Turkish public opinion. Thus, the purpose of this analysis is to study the chosen media content concerning religious minorities and to answer the question how the post-coup reality affects the situation of persons belonging to these groups. In order to achieve this goal several research methods specific for political science and humanities are applied and Polish, English and Turkish language sources are widely referred in the article.

The aim of this article is to analyse the issues related to a political upheaval as a form of the succession of royal power in the monarchy of united Israel in the period that started during the reign of the first king of the Hebrews – Saul – till the last years David spent on the throne. During the period analysed in this article, there were several unsuccessful attempts to seize power through a political coup. Due to the fact that the inheritance based on the principle of primogeniture was never unambiguously introduced in the Kingdom of Israel, the most serious upheaval, described as a palace revolution, took place at the end of King David’s life. As a result, the younger son of David – Solomon – ascended to Israel’s throne, despite the fact that there were no legitimate grounds for him to take power.
