Nowadays engineers are facing complicated tasks and problems while realizing their professional responsibilities. The engineer may not have experience of solving such problems or their counterparts. It means that expert must be rather creative to produce new ideas, new ways or products. Engaging into the innovative activity the engineer becomes the source of production, science and society development. The problems connected with the studying of personality or professional creativity are cross-disciplinary. They are investigated by authorities in psychology, cognitive science, pedagogy, philosophy (the philosophy of science particularly), social science, study of culture, language and literature study etc. It means the concept node in this field is not steady and well-defined. The purpose of the current paper is to analyze and specify the creative potential taking into account different approaches, scientific and practical context which includes the term. Theoretical and empirical analysis enabled to study original sources, scientific and practical papers in order to get information about world experience in professional education and future engineers training particularly. Content analysis and abstracting are used to define concretely conceptual and category set. Synthesis, comparison and generalization made it possible to consider and match various views on the problem. The analysis shows there is no the only definition of creativity as the term is used to describe a great amount of diverse categories, such as activity, abilities, process, phenomena, etc. The definition of the concept core as the “creating of something new” is significant for the current research. This enables to suppose that “creative” or “the creativity” would always mean “creating of something new” and it is not important which context it is included in. Creative potential is coupled with creativity and is widely used by the scientists. At the same time it is not described well enough and does not have numerous explanations presented in the scientific sources. Presented analysis of the existing definitions gave grounds to make a general conclusion and consider the engineer’s creative potential as an integrative professional characteristic which is based on the genetically given personal inclinations and tendencies and reflects the abilities of the person to realize innovative activity.

The article discusses the nature and interaction of concepts of self-determination of a creative personality, communication skills, creative communication, and creative potential. It analyzes approaches to the definition, structure, development of conditions and performance criteria for implementation of these concepts. The article analyzes the impact of advanced communicative and creative potential revealed on the productivity of the process of self-determination. It is proved that the maximum efficiency of development of two afore mentioned abilities can be achieved in the process of creative communication, which is understood as the highest level of communication where a person not only reveals his/her potentials and achieves the highest spirituality, but also there is an improvement of the participants. The principles of creative communication, which are universal are described. It is proved that self-identity is a managed process and an integral role in this process is played by qualities such as creativity and interpersonal skills. The proposed mechanisms and pedagogical conditions of professional formation help students to realize their potentials, disclose abilities and inclinations, making an impact thus increasing the efficiency of the process of self-determination. Among the main conditions the creation of an atmosphere of cooperation and trust, and the use of dialogical methods are put forward. And the main condition of effective interpersonal communication we call communicative competence as an individual’s ability to solve tasks in specific situations based on the context and subtext of the situation. Each person has desire for self-determination, and therefore the task of modern education is the search for such resources and capabilities, which will ensure the formation and realization of all potentialities of the individual, which represents a significant reserve of acceleration of STP, a powerful tool for the development of production, science and culture. A successful process of self-determination can be considered only if the activity of the person would lead to such a relationship between the individual and society, which will be further successful development of creative and moral forces of a person. A leading role in these processes plays well-developed communicative and creative potential of the teacher and students.

The creative potential of the individual as a cultural subject is considered in the context of communicative-dialogue strategies and modern interpretative practices related to decoding the semantic continuum of the work of culture. The author believes that the presence of various meaning-generating projections and relationships allows the problematic semantic field of the presented discourse to expand and opens the way to numerous interpretations of its contextual, in-text matrix, and to the identification of a paradigm hierarchy of artistic meanings.

The article presents main characteristics of transformation of modern cities, particularly in Poland. It describes the changes in the spatial and in socio-cultural environment. For thousands of years the city has been considered as “man’s home”, formed in response to emerging needs and social aspirations, but it is also the environment with the crisis-prone characteristics, exposed to various threats. Critics draw attention to the process of alienation within the modern city, resulting from many features of postmodern reality. At the same time, one can specify different actions for “regaining” the city. The second part of the article is devoted to the presentation of changes of Cracow and the emerging of the new social spaces corresponding to the needs of creative environments.
