Popular-science magazines occupy an important place amidst numerous areas of journalistic activity. Their aim is to convey scientific knowledge that is easily digestible and attractive in its form also when it comes to non-specialists. Authors of such texts face a difficult task of reconciling what is typically scientific with what is journalistic. The purpose of the article is a media-linguistic analysis of phenomena which constitute the journalistic transfer of scientific knowledge, taking place both in the verbal as well as visual sphere. The research corpus is based on the texts published in the Polish edition of the popular science magazine FOCUS. In the centre of research interest there are processes of hybridization and differentiation which are employed by authors of multimodal texts in order to optimize the transfer of information.

The article presents the development of the Urania from 1921 to 1958. The aims, tasks, formal presentation, contents and history of the periodical are outlined alongside the popularisation activities of the Association of Polish Amateur Astronomers, which published journal at the time. Its distinguished members, professors of astronomy, occupied the position of editors, taking care that the publication was high quality. The oldest Polish journal dedicated to the popularisation of astronomy is still published today in an altered form, and this article is another contribution towards telling its story in book form.

Artykuł prezentuje rozwój czasopisma „Urania” w latach 1921‒1958. Cele, zadania, układ formalny, zawartość treściową i historię periodyku nakreślono na tle działalności popularyzacyjnej Polskiego Towarzystwa Miłośników Astronomii, którego organem była wówczas „Urania”. Jego wybitni członkowie, profesorowie astronomii, piastowali stanowiska redaktorów naczelnych, dbając o wysoki poziom merytoryczny. Najstarsze polskie czasopismo popularyzujące astronomię wśród młodzieży i dorosłych ukazuje się do chwili obecnej w zmienionej formie, a artykuł jest kolejnym przyczynkiem do monograficznego opisania jego historii.

The article outlines the history of the Museum of the Polish Peasant Movement and its periodicals - The Yearbook of the Historical Museum of the Polish Peasant Movement and In the Footsteps of Our Fathers. The Museum id closely connected with the political representation of Poland’s agrarian community. At first it was the United People’s Party (ZSL), and since 1991 the Polish People’s Party (PSL). As our analysis demonstrates the periodicals, both academic and popular, published under the Museum’s auspices invariably reflect the party line, or even party propaganda, in the spheres of tradition and history
