Ocena systemu emerytalnego w Polsce wymaga uwzględniania rent rodzinnych oraz rozmaitych uprawnień przyznanych w ramach systemu emerytalnego członkom rodziny i innym osobom wskazanym przez ubezpieczonego. Sytuacja rodziny po śmierci ubezpieczonego jest zabezpieczana przede wszystkim przez rentę rodzinną w ramach odrębnych ubezpieczeń rentowych. Renta rodzinna jest świadczeniem alternatywnym, a nie uzupełnieniem emerytur, gdyż pozostały przy życiu małżonek lub inny członek rodziny może wybrać, czy korzystniejsze dla niego jest własne świadczenie emerytalne lub rentowe czy renta rodzinna. Zróżnicowany jest zakres przedmiotowy oraz uwarunkowania zastosowania poszczególnych rozwiązań dotyczących rozpadu małżeństwa i śmierci ubezpieczonego lub emeryta. Zasadniczo ich wpływ na wypełnianie funkcji (adekwatność) systemu emerytalnego jest nikły.

An assessment of the pension system in Poland requires consideration of family pensions and various rights granted under the pension system to family members and other persons designated by the insured. The situation of the family after the insured’s death is secured primarily by the survivor’s pension as part of a separate disability insurance. A survivor’s pension is an alternative, not a supplement to pensions, because a surviving spouse or other family member can choose whether his or her own pension or disability pension is more favorable to them. The scope and conditions of the application of individual solutions concerning the breakdown of marriage and the death of the insured or a pensioner are diversified. In principle, their impact on fulfilling the function (adequacy) of the pension system is negligible.
