Apart from poetry, Paul van Ostaijen also wrote grotesque prose. The grotesque shows an inverted world that is equally logical as the real world but governed by different norms and an upside-down morality. It is alienating and familiar at the same time. The grotesque texts reflect on the grand narratives of modernism. In this article, I focus on the image of the metropolis in three stories: De kudde van Claire, De gehouden hotelsleutel and De verloren huissleutel. Firstly, I define the concept of the grotesque. Then, I discuss van Ostaijen’s time in Berlin, before I turn to the metropolis and its inhabitants. They seem to desperately hold on to a logical and dual organisation of their city, lives and world, yet van Ostaijen undermines this dualistic world vision and positions his prose in the domain of ambiguity, in a labyrinth that may be the only answer to the question of the crisis imposed by reality.

In the history of Poland and the Catholic Church in the Homeland there is no lack of heroic witnesses, whose attitude, words and testimony has become a certain “sign of” a given historical period. Undoubtedly, such a character is Bl. Rev. Jerzy Popieluszko, whose teaching and famous “Mass. For the Homeland” – became a symbol of the end of the twentieth century in Poland. With these services, there was a certain custom of plastic decoration that decorated the chancel of the church of St. Stanislaw Kostka during each “Mass for Homeland”. They expressed the thematic content of the given service in a plastic form, thus constituting a patriotic-national-religious message. There were prevailing historical themes referring to the events at that time and the religious elements. The article presents chosen plastic decorations, also referring to the sermons of the “Zoliborz priest”. The analysis and presentation of works of art is possible thanks to archival collections of the Center for Documentation of the Life and Cult of Bl. Rev. Jerzy Popieluszko.

W historii Polski i Kościoła katolickiego w Ojczyźnie nie brak heroicznych świadków, których postawa, słowa i świadectwo stały się pewnym „znakiem rozpoznawczym” danego okresu dziejowego. Niewątpliwie taką postacią jest bł. ks. Jerzy Popiełuszko, którego nauczanie i słynne „Msze św. za Ojczyznę” – stały się symbolem końca XX wieku w Polsce. Ze wspomnianymi nabożeństwami wiązał się pewien zwyczaj dekoracji plastycznych, które zdobiły prezbiterium kościoła św. Stanisława Kostki podczas każdej „Mszy za Ojczyznę”. W formie plastycznej wyrażały one treść tematyczną danego nabożeństwa, stanowiąc tym samym przesłanie patriotyczno-narodowo-religijne. Przeważała w nich tematyka historyczna nawiązująca do ówczesnych wydarzeń oraz elementy religijne. Artykuł prezentuje wybrane dekoracje plastyczne, również w odniesieniu do danych kazań „żoliborskiego kapłana”. Analiza i prezentacja dzieł artystycznych jest możliwa dzięki zbiorom archiwalnym Ośrodka Dokumentacji Życia i Kultu Bł. Ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki.

The article presents a classification of vocabulary in the semantic-thematic field EQUIPMENT AND INTERIOR DESIGN. In the introduction, the author refers to the classifications suggested by other researchers (Andrzej Markowski, Barbara Batko-Tokarz and Anna Piotrowicz, Małgorzata Witaszek-Samborska) and then presents her own suggestion of a division into subfields. The individual subfields are illustrated with exemplary lexemes collected in Poddębice district.

Artykuł przedstawia podział słownictwa z zakresu pola semantyczno-tematycznego WYPOSAŻENIE I WYSTRÓJ WNĘTRZ. We wstępie autorka odnosi się do klasyfikacji innych badaczy (Andrzeja Markowskiego, Barbary Batko-Tokarz, a także Anny Piotrowicz i Małgorzaty Witaszek-Samborskiej), a następnie prezentuje własną propozycję podziału na podpola. Poszczególne podpola zobrazowane są przykładowymi leksemami zgromadzonymi na terenie powiatu poddębickiego.
