Zachodzące procesy starzenia się ludności indukują potrzebę aktywności naukowej w kierunku rozwiązywania problemów przez nie generowanych, w tym kwestii związanych z mieszkalnictwem. Wynika to z faktu, iż segment osób starszych jako potencjalnych odbiorców oferty mieszkaniowej, będzie odgrywał coraz istotniejszą rolę. Rozpatrując problemy związane z mieszkalnictwem dla seniorów, należy dostrzec, iż populacja ta jest silnie zróżnicowana wewnętrznie. Heterogeniczność ta implikuje konieczność pojawienia się szerokiej i zróżnicowanej oferty mieszkaniowej adresowanej do osób starszych. Niezależne mieszkania, dostosowane architektonicznie oraz wyposażone w technologie dedykowane seniorom stanowią jedną z możliwych form mieszkalnictwa senioralnego. Celem opracowania jest eksplikacja znaczenia gerontechnologii w ramach koncepcji srebrnej gospodarki. Temat ten wydaje się być szczególnie aktualny w obliczu problemu starości demograficznej, jak i tendencji demograficznych warunkujących obecny i przyszły kształt zasobów mieszkaniowych dla seniorów. Opracowanie stanowi studium przypadku – w pracy omówiono przykład wzorcowego mieszkania dla seniorów zlokalizowanego na warszawskich Bielanach, w którym zastosowano szereg rozwiązań z zakresu gerontechnologii

The ongoing ageing of societies entails the need to intensify research aimed at solving problems of seniors. Housing is one of the most acute problems of the elderly. However, solving this issue is by no means an easy task as the population of seniors is highly heterogeneous. The great diversity means that the housing offer for this group should also be wide and comprehensive. Independent living forms, adjusted to the needs of the elderly, are among many potential dwelling options. The aim of this paper is to explain the meaning of gerontechnology as part of the silver economy concept. The issue is of special importance in the light of the ongoing demographic changes. The basic method applied is case study – the author presents the model example of an apartment for seniors in Warsaw, Poland, where many gerontechnological solutions have been applied.
