Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie obecności Rafika Schamiego, niemieckiego pisarza o syryjskich korzeniach, na polskim rynku wydawniczym oraz analiza reakcji polskiego odbiorcy na jego twórczość. Autorka odpowiada na pytanie, dlaczego Schami został tak późno dostrzeżony przez polskie wydawnictwa i wiąże fakt zainteresowania jego twórczością z bieżącymi wydarzeniami politycznymi w Syrii. W przeciągu zaledwie pięciu lat opubliowa-no w Polsce pięć książek tego pisarza, które otrzymały bardzo entuzjastyczne recenzje i zdobyły duże grono fanów. Zdaniem autorki powodem tej popularności, zwłaszcza wśród czytelniczek, jest niezwykły talent Rafika Schamiego jako gawędziarza i uniwersalny charak-ter jego książek, które są adresowane tak do dzieci i młodzieży jak i do dorosłych. Jeżeli chodzi o obecność twórczości tego autora w polskim obiegu krytycznoliterackim i naukowym, to wciąż czeka ona na odkrycie.

The aim of this article is to present the work of Rafik Schami, a German writer with Syrian origins, and to determine the impact of his literary output on the publishing market in Poland and to analyze how his output has been received by Polish readers. The authoress answers why Polish publishing houses have been late in their discovery of Schami and draws a parallel between the current state of affairs in Syria and a recently developed interest in Shami's works. In just five years, five of his books have been published in Poland. Not only have the works been well received, they have amassed a large number of followers. The authoress thinks that his great popularity, especially among women, is due to both Shami's talent as a raconteur and the universal nature of his books. They are perfect for children and adolescents as well as adults. As an author, however, he is still waiting to be discovered by Polish critical and academic circles.

Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird dargestellt, wie das Werk von Rafik Schami auf dem polnischen Büchermarkt funktioniert und wie es von den polnischen Lesern aufgenommen und rezipiert wird. Die Autorin fragt auch, warum das polnische Verlagswesen den namhaften und anderswo vielfach preisgekrönten Schriftsteller so spät entdeckte und sieht die Ursache für das erwachende Interesse an seinem Werk in den aktuellen politischen Ereignissen in Syrien. Es ist kein Zufall, dass man in den letzten fünf Jahren gleich fünf Bücher dieses Autors auflegte, die sehr enthusiastisch rezensiert wurden. Die Autorin sieht die wachsende Begeisterung für Schamis Werk in Polen in dessen erzählerischem Talent und in dem universellen Charakter seiner Bücher, die sowohl an Kinder und Jugendliche als auch an Erwachsene adressiert sind. Die philologische Forschung in Polen hat Rafik Schami bis dato noch wenig Interesse geschenkt.
