Niepełnosprawność zwykle stawia rodziców dziecka i cały system rodzinny w sytuacji trudnej. Wiąże się ona ze zmianą dotychczasowego funkcjonowania rodziny, relacji małżeńskich, podziału obowiązków, czasu wolnego czy też aktywności społecznej. Szczególnie obciążone wychowaniem i rehabilitacją dziecka są matki. Od ich umiejętności radzenia sobie zależy nie tylko dobrostan dziecka, ale i całego systemu rodzinnego. Artykuł prezentuje badania stylów radzenia sobie ze stresem u matek wychowujących dzieci z niepełnosprawnością na wsi i w mieście. Wskazuje on na deficyty w zadaniowym nastawieniu badanych matek do sytuacji stresowych oraz na dominację stylu skoncentrowanego na unikaniu, zwłaszcza u kobiet mieszkających na wsi.

Disability usually puts child’s parents, and the whole family system, in a difficult situation. It involves the change in the functioning of the family, marital relations, division of responsibilities, leisure or social participation. Especially mothers are bearing with education and rehabilitation of child. On their skills depends not only the welfare of the child but also the whole family system stability. The article presents the study over different styles of coping with stress in mother raising children with disabilities in the villages and towns. It identifies the deficits in activity-based attitude ofresearched mothers to stress situation and the dominancy of style concentrated on avoidance, especially in rural women.
