The article presents selected problems pertaining to Germany’s energy security in the context of the country’s resignation from the exploitation of nuclear power plants. The following issues are discussed: power mix structure, degree of dependence on the import of energy resources and diversification of directions of supplies. The causes and essence of the change of decision concerning the use of nuclear power in Germany following the failure of nuclear reactors in Japan in March 2011 are also analyzed.

Artykuł dotyczy Inicjatywy Państw Trójmorza (IPT), zaproponowanej przez Polskę i Chorwację w sierpniu 2016 r. na i Szczycie IPT w Dubrowniku. Autor skupił się na rezultatach II Szczytu Inicjatywy, który odbył się 6-7 lipca 2017 r. w Warszawie. Wyjaśniono genezę IPT oraz jej główne cele. W przekonaniu Autora oscylują one wokół kwestii społeczno-ekonomicznych, zwłaszcza rozwoju sieci transportowej, która pozytywnie może wpłynąć na rozwój powiązań handlowych oraz bezpieczeństwa, a zwłaszcza na dywersyfikację dostaw gazu ziemnego i ropy naftowej. Wspomniana dywersyfikacja jest warunkiem bezpieczeństwa ekonomicznego, a w dalszej perspektywie również suwerenności gospodarczej i politycznej krajów IPT. Ma to szczególne znaczenie w okolicznościach agresywnej polityki Federacji Rosyjskiej wobec Ukrainy i zagrożenia terrorystycznego w państwach Europy Zachodniej, którego źródeł należy szukać w konfliktach zbrojnych na Bliskim Wschodzie, oraz wywołanym przez nie kryzysie migracyjnym. W tym też kontekście należy zauważyć konieczność współpracy krajów IPT w zakresie bezpieczeństwa i zwalczania terroryzmu.

The article concerns the Three Seas Initiative, proposed by Poland and Croatia in August 2016 at the i Summit in Dubrovnik. The author focused on the results of the Second Summit of the Initiative, which took place on July 6-7, 2017 in Warsaw. The origin of Three Seas Initiative and its main goals are explained. In the Author's conviction, they oscillate around socio-economic issues, especially the development of the transport network, which may positively affect the development of economic and trade links and security - in this context it mainly focused on the diversification of energy resources, especially natural gas and oil supplies. The mentioned diversification is a condition of economic security, and in the long run also of economic and political sovereignty of IPT countries. This is particularly important in the circumstances of the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation towards Ukraine and the terrorist threat in Western European countries, whose sources should be sought in the armed conflicts in the Middle East and the migration crisis that they caused. In this context, it should be noted that the IPT countries must cooperate in the field of security and counter-terrorism
