The religious freedom of a child was first proclaimed in secular law in 1989, when the UN General Assembly created the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The benefits that a child derives from this convention are subject to the degree of the child's maturity. He or she was able to benefit from their religious freedom only as a member of a church or religious group – before the Convention was ratified by Polish legislators. The Convention states that the child is the subject of religious freedom due to self-respect. In Polish legislation, the child's freedom correlates with their parents' rights. The parents are given the right to raise their children in accordance with their beliefs. However, some oversights have been made by the legislators. It is not explained how to combine children's needs with the needs of their parents in case there are some conflicts regarding religious freedom.
