How do we understand the armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine and what are its implications for Ukraine’s domestic politics as well as for stability in the region? The media, policymakers, and political analysts have used several competing narratives to explain the armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine. This paper examines three competing narratives of the armed conflict. The first narrative focuses on domestic causes of the conflict; the second narrative examines the role of Russia in the insurgency; and the third narrative describes the conflict as a result of Western policies and interference.

The purpose of the article is to describe the 2022 South Korean presidential election against the backdrop of a paradigm shift and to show the challenges and directions of Yoon Suk Yeol’s new administration. The author focuses on the research problems present in the new South Korean politics. Elements of change and continuity, which were also present in previous administrations are highlighted. In May 2022, Yoon Suk Yeol was sworn into the South Korea’s highest office. Yoon’s win in the presidential election ended a trend in which a decade of progressive rule was followed by a change to conservative rule. Since 1998, progressive and conservative presidents have alternated every two terms. The minimal difference in votes in favor of the conservative candidate reflected the divisions and social preferences of Koreans who favored a change from progressive to conservative government. The results of the 2022 presidential election revealed the polarization of South Korean society. Yoon will face a series of difficult challenges. In domestic politics, he must confront the housing crisis, widespread dissatisfaction with economic inequality, and generational tensions, among other issues. Yoon will also be challenged by the parliamentary majority currently held by the Democratic Party in the National Assembly. In foreign policy, South Korea’s new president advocates strengthening the alliance with the United States and cooperation with the Quad countries; he promises to improve relations with Japan, and to take steps toward South Korea playing a greater role in the world. In his inter-Korean policy, on the other hand, Yoon follows the traditional position of the conservatives, pledging to strengthen a policy of deterrence against acts of aggression and provocation by North Korea.

Gagauzia is among the exceptional cases of relatively well-resolved conflicts in the territory of the former Soviet Union. Most foreign researchers, however, have focused on the negotiations between Comrat and Kishinev, and often, the influence of the domestic situation itself within Gagauzia is overlooked, even though it contributed to a fair extent to the resolution of the problem. In the analysis of this aspect, it is possible to analyze the concept of the de facto state, because in its first phase developments in Gagauzia took on similar features as other conflicts in the Soviet, or post-Soviet area – establishment of its own government, escalation of demands for self-determination in areas ranging from cultural autonomy to political separatism, and the proclamation of an independent republic. Unlike other cases where a de facto state has arisen, however, for Gagauzia the achievement of this status represented the apex of its independent existence. Maintaining the independent republic has proven to be unfeasible, which is also due to a significant extent to internal conflicts within the Gagauzian elite as well as the failure to resolve the economic crisis in the region.

The deliberations presented in this text are an attempt to capture the tendencies in the discussion on the phenomenon of the Russian political regime and its process of transformation in the Vladimir Putin era. The author presents different ways of defining the political regime and different approaches to the subject of the researched phenomenon presented by researchers from Poland, Russia and representatives of Western political science. The text is a overview since the dynamics of the changes and the multiplicity of elements involved have resulted in more or less consistent concepts and the lack of effective completion of the transition processes results in topic's non-exhaustion, despite the great interest in the issue.

Rozważania przedstawione w niniejszym tekście stanowią próbę uchwycenia tendencji w dyskusji nad fenomenem rosyjskiego reżimu politycznego i jego procesu przemian w epoce Władimira Putina.
