The general objective of this study was to research the revitalisation of language tourism (LT) activities in Spain. More specifically, the study aimed at describing the LT phenomenon, analysing the global and Spanish LT market, and examining domestic LT options in Spain. A bibliographic and web search was carried out, in addition to a focus group with a convenience sample of four language tourists, and an in-depth semi-structured interview with one study abroad accommodation provider. Qualitative data were processed using content analysis and SWOT analysis, and were categorised before the triangulation stage. Whereas Spanish inbound and outbound LT markets are quite consolidated, only 17 private companies and 5 public programmes have been identified in the Spanish domestic niche, all of them focusing on English as a foreign language. The private offering is very limited and addressed at very specific segments. As for public programmes, in 2019-2020 they received an estimated funding of 4.7 million euros and were attended by over 9000 individuals. This sector has been scarcely investigated to date and offers an excellent opportunity for proximity travel. A more extensive, diversified offering, supported by better promotion is required. This implies the involvement of all stakeholders, as well as the close cooperation of private suppliers and the public administration, in planning and implementing sustainable policies in Spain.

The paper discusses the origins and development of the holocaust tourism i.e. the tourism associated with visiting concentration camps that had emerged during the Second World War in Europe and more generally with visiting memorials and museums linked to the phenomenon of the legacy of the Holocaust. The text freely discusses motivational and ethical issues associated with this form of tourism (the question of free entry or the amount of currently levied entry of the sites, respectively). Based on the possible data and information available, the text also presents anecdotal evidence of the attendance of the goals of the holocaust tourism, the structure of their visitors and of the specific seasonality of this subtype of a dark tourism. In conclusion, we evaluated the competitiveness of the Czech Republic and opportunities for further development of the holocaust tourism from the perspective of the (dis)interest of Czech tourists.

Domestic tourism is relatively under-represented in tourism scholarship. This article attempts to analyse the role of domestic tourism in one of the ‘emerging world regions’ of tourism. In the case of South Africa domestic tourism represents a significant element of the country’s tourism economy. The objectives are to provide (i) an analysis of the growth, contemporary spatial patterns and restructuring of domestic tourism in South Africa; and (ii) an assessment of emerging policy debates issues taking place about domestic tourism. Using a detailed local level data base on tourism flows this paper provides fresh insight into the character and changing geography of domestic tourism in South Africa. The nature and dynamics of domestic tourism are shown to have shifted since democratic transition. The restructured geography of domestic tourism exhibits a number of continuities and changes with earlier times. Government is seeking to use domestic tourism as a basis for addressing spatial unevenness in patterns of tourism development. In terms of recent spatial change it is revealed the most significant developments are the strengthening of Ethekwini as the country’s leading domestic tourism destination and the relative demise of Cape Town as a hub for domestic tourists.

Holiday or tourist trips are gradually becoming part of the lifestyle of more and more Poles. The statement can be based on both research results on the trips accomplished, and declarations concerning future plans. However, those who travelled outside their place of permanent residence in 2012 still constituted the minority of the adult population. In 2012, as in the previous years, Poles most often practised domestic tourism (40% of the population); 15% of the Polish population rested abroad. Those who went to foreign countries most often chose European directions, especially Germany.

The article was thought to study the influence of the selected non-economic factors on the diversity of the tourism demand in the countries of the European Union, both in the domestic and outbound tourism. The additional aim of the thesis was to analyze the influence of the discussed non-economic determinants of demand on choosing between domestic and outbound tourism. Basing on the analysis it’s possible to arrive at numerous conclusions.
