Przedmiotem rozważań zawartych w tekście jest użycie groźby w komunikacji politycznej, rozumiane i opisywane w kategoriach retorycznych i dyskursywnych. W artykule przedstawiono kolejno refl eksje na temat miejsca groźby w teorii retoryki, użycia groźby we współczesnym polskim dyskursie politycznym, funkcji groźby w dyskursie politycznym oraz przykłady stosowania groźby w praktyce politycznej (zjawisko mówienia o oponencie politycznym jako zagrożeniu uniwersalnym).

This article aims at describing the use of the threat in political communication, understood and analyzed in rhetorical and discursive terms. The author examines the position of threat in the theory of rhetoric as well as the use and functions of threat in contemporary Polish political discourse. The fi nal part of the article has been devoted to case study of using the threat as a way of speaking about political opponents.
