The article deals with the issue connected with the social pedagogy in the context of economical changes. The purpose of this article is to present the origins of the philosophical, political and social ideas and their influence on the pedagogic. The role of social factors in pedagogy was and still is very important. The first social thinkers and pedagogues – Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, Johann Bernhard Basedow, Charles Booth, Simonde de Sismondi, Claude Henri Saint – Simon, Robert Owen, Octavia Hill, Samuel Barnett, Jane Laure Addams and Mary Parker Follett – had a great influence on the early development of that field.

Artykuł prezentuje zagadnienia związane z kształtowaniem się pedagogiki społecznej w kontekście przemian ekonomicznych, mających swe źródło w procesie industrializacji. Ukazano w nim wzajemne związki zachodzące pomiędzy filozofią, polityką a pedagogiką społeczną. Spośród osób wyróżniających się na polu działalności edukacyjnej i wychowawczej omówione zostały m.in. następujące postacie: Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Johann Heinricha Pestalozzi, Johann Bernhard Basedow, Charles Booth, Simonde de Sismondi, Henri Saint-Simon, Robert Owen, Octavia Hill, Samul Barnett, Jane Laure Addam i Mary Parker Follett.
