This paper deals with the evaluation of changes in the labour force in the Czech Republic after 1989 and focuses on the branch and educational structure. The changes are also compared with processes in other countries of Central Europe. In the late 1980s the employment rate by sectors of the economy was different in Central European countries when compared with the situation in Western countries. Even subsequent transformation did not change the high share of industry and construction in total employment in the Czech Republic and Slovakia or a lower share of services. Within the manufacturing industry two stages can be distinguished. In the nineties, the majority of branches experienced a decrease in employment, whereas in the first decade of the 21st century stagnation or even reindustrialization occurred, especially when the branches associated with the automotive industry grew (other branches continued to decline). At the regional level, a diversification process was taking place all the time, if you like the transition from the specialization to the diversification. The importance of education is constantly increasing and the number of people with secondary education with GCE and tertiary education is growing. The relationship between the unemployment rate in districts of the Czech Republic and the share of employed people with tertiary education intensifies. The tertiary sector shows the highest level of education (in some branches of services more than onethird of employed has a tertiary education).

The aim of the study is to quantitatively analyze and confirm the existence of a relationship of direct and indirect dependence between the number of crimes committed, or the number of persons sentenced, as the case may be, and selected factors such as expenditure on education, educational structure of population, average length of study and unemployment rate (which is directly related to education). Fulfilment of the aim assumes validation of the research assumption in the form of a hypothesis, the source of the hypothesis being partial theories of a relationship between education and crime. The hypothesis assumes the existence of a relationship of mutual direct non-linear and linear dependence between selected factors. The object of quantitative analysis is a sample from 15 EU countries. The key methods of scientific research are the methods of classification analysis, comparison and abstraction in the formation of a theoretical and methodological framework for addressing the issue; methods of quantitative analysis using statistical methods for processing and evaluation of information in validation of the hypothesis in the application section of the study and methods of synthesis and partial induction in drawing conclusions of the research. Specification of education as the public sector branch of key importance from the viewpoint of society development by public investments for its protection from sociopathic behaviours and particularly crime is an expected benefit. The contribution is an output of the sub-project KEGA 037 UMB - 4/2013 Innovative Study Programme Social Economy and Entrepreneurship.

The paper aims to show differentiation of the socio-economic statut of sixty selected housing estates in Czechia on the example of the educational level of the population. We focus both on the differentiation of the housing estates and on the comparison of their position within the Czech cities. Our analyses show that even if the position of most housing estates as compared with other urban neigbourhoods has deteriorated in last decades, they still represent a very heterogeneous set of neighbourhoods in Czechia.
