The themes of responsibility and care for the environment in the local dimension and in everyday life are present in the literature and indicate that the slogan of sustainable development is very much up-to-date. The importance of local communities in this area of activity is growing. They are characterised by a genuine concern for the environment, unlike the one centrally controlled by the state. The idea of sustainable development presented in the article is part of the activities undertaken by the International Federation for Home Economics. It is one of the leading global organisations operating in the field of home economics. Being a catalyst for progress in line with the times when it is updating its objectives in the countries of its members is a constant priority in its environmental education activities, which are concerned with quality of life. Recently, sustainable development has become such a priority.

Obecne w literaturze wątki odpowiedzialności i troski o środowisko w wymiarze lokalnym i w codziennych powinnościach wskazują, że hasło zrównoważonego rozwoju jest bardzo aktualne. Podnoszenie znaczenia wspólnot lokalnych w tym obszarze działań, cechuje prawdziwa dbałość o środowisko, w odróżnieniu od tej, sterowanej centralnie przez państwo. Idea zrównoważonego rozwoju przedstawiona w artykule wpisuje się w działania podejmowane przez International Federation for Home Economics. Jest to jedna z głównych organizacji o charakterze globalnym działająca na polu domowej ekonomii. Stałym priorytetem w jej działalności w zakresie edukacji ekologicznej charakteryzującej się dbałością o jakość życia, jest bycie katalizatorem postępu w obecnych czasach, aktualizując swoje cele w krajach, z których wywodzą się jej członkinie i członkowie. W ostatnim okresie priorytetem tym stał się zrównoważony rozwój.
