Wskaźnikami przemian cywilizacyjnych m.in. są: stopień opanowania przyrody przez człowieka, rozwój techniki i technologii, postępy w różnych dziedzinach nauki, rozwój duchowy i materialny społeczeństw. Przemiany cywilizacyjne możemy rozpatrywać jako wiążące się z postępem i regresem. Skutkami tych zmian są m.in.: migracja ludności wiejskiej do miast, co znacząco zmienia te ekosystemy, zagęszczenie populacji ludzkiej, zmiany w architekturze, zmniejszanie się terenów zielonych, wzrost nawożenia i nadużywanie pestycydów, hałas, zanieczyszczenia powietrza, wód powierzchniowych, wody przeznaczonej do spożycia, gleb, a także zmiany klimatu i kataklizmy. Przemiany cywilizacyjne stają się wyzwaniem dla edukacji. Konieczne jest przygotowywanie dzieci i młodzieży, a także dorosłych do zachodzących zmian, oczywiście w różnym stopniu. Niwelowanie negatywnych skutków rozwoju cywilizacji upatruje się we wprowadzeniu zrównoważonego rozwoju.

There are, among others, the following indicators of civilization changes: the degree to which humans could mastery the nature, the development of techniques and technologies, the progress and advances in various fields of science, the spiritual and material development of the societies. Civilization changes can be seen as involving the progress and the regression. Their effects are, i.e., the migration of the rural population to cities, which has significant effects on the changes of the ecosystem, the increase in the human population density, changes in architecture, reduction of the green areas, increase of fertilization and abuse of pesticides, noise, air pollution, surface water contamination, drinking water contamination, soil contamination, climate changes, natural disasters. Civilisation changes have been becoming the challenge for education. There is a need to prepare children and young people, not to mention, the adults for such changes, of course, to the various degrees. The reduction of the negative effects of the civilization development refers to the introduction of the sustainable development.
