This article draws special attention to the effects of operation of special economic zones located within Dolnośląskie Voivodeship in the period from 2008, that is the year considered as the beginning of global financial and economic crisis. It has been also assumed that it is important to verify the thesis about the effectiveness of special economic zones as the tools of social and economic development, especially in the context of decreasing the unemployment, increasing the quality of human resources, and enhancing the investment attractiveness of less developed areas.
