The purpose of this paper is to indicate a relationship between codes and transmission of emotional culture patterns. The theoretical framework is Basil Bernstein’s concept, which is applied to describe emotional culture scripts in their different communication contexts. It is assumed and discussed that both open-role and closed-role systems, and the corresponding elaborated and restricted codes influence children’s emotional competence. It is probable that in the open-role system, the patterns of emotional culture are more individualistic, while in the restricted-code more collective. An open-code educational situation involves talking about emotions and is based on self-control. On the other hand, a restricted-code may result in poor emotional language and lack of internal control. In adopting a sociolinguistic lens I wanted to draw attention to the importance of communication of and about emotions in the educational environment. The article ends with a comparison of emotional competence dimensions formed in different communication systems.
This article is focused on the description of the content and the implementation process of an originally developed, culturally appropriate and sustainable social and emotional learning program in Latvia. The article also includes the teachers’ self-reflected experience illustrated through the perspective of the program’s sample activities. The general goal of the program is to develop the emotional and social competencies of pupils, and at the same time to introduce to schoolteachers the principles necessary for combining academic and social emotional learning. As a preventive approach this program is aimed at all ages of pupils (from primary forms to secondary grades). During the school years 2012/ 13 and 2013/14 the social emotional learning program was introduced in 39 schools in Latvia (a total of 12 699 pupils). The participants implementing the program were 630 classroom teachers (614 female and 16 male with the mean age 45.04 years). As a result of the program implementation, social and emotional learning principles became a common approach for the entire school; the teachers became well versed on social emotional issues and received materials for conducting class lessons at each level; regular teacher supervisions were provided; regional supervisors were trained to sustain the pedagogical practice.
The meaning and interconnection of such definitions as emotions, emotional state, emotional culture, self-determination of the creative personality (in professional and life sphere), emotional intelligence are under view in the article. In the course of the study were used such methods as study, analysis, generalization, systematization of data of scientifical-methodological and special literature. The researcher analyzes approaches to definitions and structures, under which conditions they develop, examines basic theories of emotions. The aim of the study is to reveal the influence of the emotional state of personality on the process of self-determination and self-realization, to analyze the term “emotional culture” as the main condition for effective professional self-determination. It is being proved that self-identity is a controlled process and such qualities as emotional culture (in the context of professional and pedagogical culture of the teacher) and creative potential play an important role in this process. Emotional culture is understood as an integrated dynamic personal education, with its own structure, and a set of knowledge about the development of emotions, skills and methods of analising and controlling them. These skills are aimedat the adequate response, that contributes to verbalizationof human emotions, emotional openness, emotional empathy and giving emotional support toothers when needed. Among the leading components, ensuring the formation of a high level of emotional culture are the following: sociocultural, behavioral, emotional, motivational, ethical and moral. Emotional culture includes the emotional competence and emotional literacy. There are the following components in the structure of emotional culture, such as axiological, technological and personally creative. The interaction of emotional culture and emotional intelligence can be most fully realized in the emotional environment. Emotional environment includes emotions and emotional relations that occur in humans during interaction. So pedagogical influence on the process of professional self-determination of a person occurs under condition of targed pedagogical work to help a person to understand himself better, to be able to estimate personal skills. Hence, professional self-determination is a controllable process. And one of the elements controlling professional self-determination is the development of emotional culture of the individual. Thus, the ways of development of emotional culture of the person are suggested. This improves the effectiveness of the process of self-determination.
Preschool children often demonstrate behaviors like obstinacy, defiance, disobedience, loss of temper, that may be treated as troublesome. Nevertheless, distinguishing normal misbehavior from markers of disruptive behavior disorders is very important. Typical for that period of development behavioral problems are transient, but clinical symptoms of disorders are stable and need professional treatment. Poor emotional competence in preschool children is associated with the risk of disruptive behavior disorders. Behavioral dysfunctions are affected by the constellation of many factors both biological and social. Among them, the quality of parent-child and teachers-child relations is underlined. The parenting style or teacher’s reactions charged with negative emotionality, punishment and coercion seem to be especially adverse for the development of preschoolers’ emotional competence. Children may manifest some impairments in social interactions and self-control. The identification of key behavioral markers of preschool conduct disorders and signs predicting the later disruptive behavioral disorders enable early professional interventions.

The purpose of this article is to interpret the term ‘competence’ from the pedagogical perspective. The term hast became popular in the pedagogical circle due to the Polish Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning where social competence, next to knowledge and skills, is one of the three categories of learning results. In the article we are defining the term ‘competence’ and are showing its complex and multidimensional structure. We are also trying to answer the question concerning characteristics of social competence. From the analysis we conclude that the basis for developing social competence is emotional competence. This results from the functions fulfilled by emotions in our lives and social character of emotional competence. In the final part of the text we are trying to answer the question on how to organise conditions for developing competences (emotional and social ones) in educational practice.

The aim of this article is to present and analyze research results on emotional education conducted in Polish schools. In the first part, which serves as a theoretical introduction to the topic,I presented my own concept of the ideology of emotional upbringing/education. I characterized thetransmission ideology, romantic, otherwise non-directive, and humanistic-progressive in terms ofthe status of emotions in education and the educational methods used. The main part of the textcontains an analysis of qualitative interviews with teachers about their experiences in pedagogicalwork on the development of students’ emotional competencies. The article concludes with indications of good practices, which are also justified by the assumptions of transactional analysis.
The talk discusses the place of emotions in human language competence at the interface of two languages and cultures. It aims to identify possibilities for non-native speakers of L2 to raise effectively emotional awareness in L2 didactic contexts. The relevance of general language awareness raising is presented, especially as the scope and use of L2 emotion concepts are shown to require of the L2 learner, at some stage, conscious apprehension and awareness of L2 input. The place and role of L1 and L2 materials generated from monolingual and parallel language corpora in enhancement of emotional awareness in FL classroom are exemplified and discussed.

In the article, the author addresses the issue of shaping valuation in the process of upbringing and education. It is emphasized the role of empathy in valuation and evaluation, as well as the conditions that contribute to its development. According to the author, empathy creates an emotional and cognitive process that plays a huge role in the education of a young person. She recalls the concept of critical thinking examined by Hannah Arendt, which draws attention to the fact that the condition of thinking is self-awareness, in its space we dialogue not only with other people, but also with ourselves. Critical thinking also includes a skilful, clear presentation of the author’s own position. There has been paid attention to the role of literature and language in shaping valuation skills, the responsibility of a Polish philologist who has a rich methodological workshop at his disposal. The role of games and play in shaping valuation skills have been emphasized. The author perceives the student’s preparation for meeting values and shaping valuation skills in a broader axiological perspective, taking into account the age of the student, his development opportunities, the impact of the family environment and education.

W artykule podjęto zagadnienie kształtowania wartościowania w procesie wychowania i kształcenia.
