Przyjąć należy, że rozwój zawodowy jest jedną z kategorii ogólnego, całożyciowego rozwoju człowieka. Zdaniem K. Czarneckiego rozwój zawodowy można traktować jako swoistą wypadkową rozwoju fizycznego, umysłowego, uczuciowego, estetycznego, politycznego, kulturowego, moralnego i społecznego. Coraz częściej rozwój zawodowy utożsamiany jest z karierą zawodową, a jego planowanie z planowaniem kariery zawodowej. Literatura dotycząca rozwoju człowieka jest bogata; najwięcej uwagi poświęca się w niej rozwojowi fizycznemu, psychicznemu i społecznemu, a znacznie mniej rozwojowi zawodowemu. Dlatego w artykule ten właśnie rozwój został przede wszystkim zaakcentowany.

It has to be accepted that vocational development is one of the categories of a general lifelong human development. According to K. Czarnecki vocational development can be treated as an average of physical, mental, emotional, esthetical, political, cultural, moral and social development. More and more often vocational development is identified with career development and its planning equals career planning. Literature concerning human development is very rich; most attention is devoted to physical, psychical and social development. Less attention is devoted to vocational development that is why this article highlights mainly this type of development.
