The value of the construction industry for green growth of the Russian economy is identified. The structure of the building materials industry, indicators of production volumes, share of exports and imports of construction materials are analysed. The main factors of high energy consumption in the construction industry are formed as a table. Main activities to modernise the building materials industry and “green” growth of the Russian economy as a whole are proposed. The urgency of formation of the mechanism of energysaving innovation application in the construction industry is justified. The methodology of management of the building materials industry development through the introduction of energy-saving innovations is proposed.
The literature reveals that linear models do not accurately represent the asymmetric relationship between economic growth and energy consumption (EC). To fill this gap, we examined the asymmetric relationship between EC and economic growth in a non-linear panel autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) framework of 85 countries as a whole sample and of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS), the Next Eleven, Big Four in Western Europe, Asia-Pacific region, Group of Seven, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the Arab League as a sub-sample analysis from 1977 to 2014. A second generational unit root test has been applied to check the problem of cross-sectional dependency. Asymmetric contegration was employed to analyse the co-integration between the variables of interest. Long-run and short-run estimates have been calculated using the non-linear panel ARDL method. Results indicate that positive shocks to energy use tend to have a growth-enhancing effect in ECO and the Next Eleven while in the rest of the regions, the effect is growth con- traction. Moreover, economic recovery from a positive shock to energy use is the case in the Arab League, Asia-Pacific region, Group of Seven and in the whole sample. However, a negative shock to EC is observed in the Group of Seven, Asia Pacific region, Big Four in Western Europe and ECO, and the whole sample worsens the economic contraction. We can deduct from this study’s results that information on the asymmetric relationship between the subject variables is needed to design sound economic policy decisions across different economic regions.
Rail transport through the use of electric traction is more friendly for environment than other means of transport. It has a lot of benefits, mainly: the possibility of mass transport using as little energy as possible per one passenger, reducing crowd, reducing congestion, lower emission of pollution, weatherproof, more safety, regularity of travelling. As we can see from the above mentioned benefits, public tram transport is one of the most popular means in Poland. Tram market in Poland is one of the largest in the world. Nowadays we have 14 thousand tram lines used by 16 companies, which gives a total of above 3600 cars. We have many types of trams exploited at present. The most popular are cars 105Na, characterized by low comfort for passengers, too low durability and high energy consumption. Because these cars are at present exploited, on the basis of their structure many different modernizations are made. The examples could be two types of cars : 204WrAs and 205WrAs , which have been produced since 2005 by the Wrocław PROTRAM Company. The largest Polish cities also use a modern trams stock produced by the largest Polish construction companies. One of the examples is recently using five-cars type 120Na produced by PESA company. This article presents results of measurements of energy consumptions of trams 105Na using traditional start –up resistance and trams PROTRAM 205WrAs type with asynchronous propulsion system in IGTB technology. Then the energy consumption is compared with data obtained from manufacturer of a modern tram PESA 120Na, working in the same conditions – asynchronous propulsion system.
The article discusses the issue of the evaluation of IT solutions in terms of sustainable development. Information systems manufacturers are increasingly showing interest in the market of pro-environmental services. The products they offer are to fit into the sector related to the reduction of energy intensity, renewable energy sources as well as waste management and recycling. However, there are many doubts about the benefits as well as the legitimacy of using such solutions. The article attempts a preliminary analysis of the potential benefits and problems that may occur using the example of a household energy consumption management system. The analysis takes into account the negative environmental and social effects that co-occur in the dissemination of IT solutions. These effects, often overlooked or not considered at all, constitute an important component of growth barriers for the entire ICT sector.
This paper addresses the question of whether the evidence on positive relationship between environmental attitudes and household energy consumption in advanced post-industrial societies can be extended to emerging economies. In this study, we focused on electricity use and utilized multivariate regression to test the above hypothesis on a sample of residents of Óbuda (Budapest) in February 2011. The analysis suggests that the findings on the positive environmental attitude-behaviour relationship in advanced post-industrial societies can be extended to some (relatively affluent) communities in post-socialist societies. Our data also showed that the effects of housing type and demography are much larger compared to the effects of the attitudes. We emphasize that our findings do not provide evidence against the hypothesis on the interaction between the effects of societal culture and individual attitudes on pro-environmental behaviour.
Transport is the second energy consumer sector after housing in Algeria. In this article, we explore the ener- gy implication of commuting by considering a panel of socio-economic (SE) and built environment (BE) driving factors. The method is based on four steps: (i) The first step is to identify the main and potential drivers from the literature review and to propose a model that summarises the main assumptions that could explain the volume of commuting and the resulting energy consumption. (ii) In the second step, we designed and distributed 700 questionnaires in the municipality of Djelfa and retained 184 valid questionnaires in the final study sample. (iii) In the third step, we developed a method adapted to urban areas to quantify energy consumption as a function of the distance travelled, the type and density of occupation by means of transport and the type of fuel. (iv) The fourth step is to check the fit of the hypothetical model with a path analysis-based approach. The model developed identifies 15 factors, of which five have a direct impact and 10 have an indirect impact on the energy consumption of commuting. The model shows that building density and the age of the respondent can reduce the energy consumption of commuting by up to −15% and −12% respectively; whereas the number of cars by housing and the round-trip frequency could increase the energy consumption up to 38% and 27% respectively. Our results suggest a structuring role of the socio-economic characteristics of households in explaining the energy consumption of commuting.
Energy security is an important issue for Ukraine's sustainable development. The main goal of the article is to show the state of energy security of Ukraine, analyze its tendencies and challenges, reveal the impact of energy security on sustainable development of a country. The state of the energy security of Ukraine was analyzed with the help of data collection, processing and analysis. Data was taken from State Statistics Service of Ukraine, Ministry of Energetics and Coal Industry of Ukraine, other sources, and analyzed with the help of tools of statistics and economic analysis. Ukraine, being a developing country and experiencing war, political and economic crisis, struggles for energy security support. The present state of energy availability and consumption in the country influences its sustainable development and political stability, and is a significant restraint in country's survival. Despite the fact that Ukraine has enough resources' deposits to provide itself with energy, it provides less than 50% of own demands and is dependent on Russia's resources. Production of energy in Ukraine is decreasing, but energy consumption remains high. Ukrainian industries are energy-wasteful and energy-inefficient; the country has the leading positions in energy intensity of GDP. The article shows the relation of energy sources and energy security of Ukraine to sustainable development, reveals the dependency of the Ukrainian energy security, and indicates its main threats and ways out.
The technosocial formula is a key concept in social cognition. It means that society needs a larger amount of life resources than people can produce. The main social goal-means relationship along with technology is a provision of material production. Man is redundant to the extent to which his appearance goes beyond the natural balance. Pro-duction growth increases the amount of excess consumption and population, and at the same time the scarcity of natural resources. The volume of world energy consumption is increasing, while hydrocarbon energy sources are exhaustible. It is necessary to change the technology of energy-oriented use of oil. The main consequence of the reorientation to the use of biological resources will be the restructuring of the social world.
The article aims to identify energy consumer behaviour, particularly in the area of energy saving. Trends in contemporary consumption, including energy consumption, reveal that an increasing number of consumers make purchase decisions in a conscious and rational manner. This is caused by the globalization and integration of markets, evolving lifestyles and social trends. Modern energy consumers are also concerned with their footprint on the natural environment. Using data, gathered in the survey, the authors conducted principal component analysis, selecting 12 new variables that represent the basic types of energy consumer behaviour focused around rational and sustainable energy consumption. The study also examined the factors that significantly influenced consumer attitudes and behaviour. The results showed that generally energy saving actions were not related to the income factor. Education, employment status and age also had a very limited influence on energy consumer attitudes.

Wykorzystując dane będące wynikiem badania ankietowego, w artykule przeprowadzono analizę głównych składowych, wyłaniając 12 nowych zmiennych reprezentujących podstawowe typy zachowań użytkowników skoncentrowanych wokół racjonalnej i zrównoważonej konsumpcji energii.
Autorki sformułowały następujące pytanie badawcze: Jakie zmiany transformacja sektora energetycznego UE spowodowała w konsumpcji i strukturze źródeł pozyskiwania energii oraz w strukturze importu i eksportu surowców energetycznych? W pracy zostały wykorzystane następujące metody badawcze. W analizie teoretycznej problemu transformacji sektora energii zostało zastosowane podejście interdyscyplinarne oparte na metodach stosowanych w międzynarodowej ekonomii politycznej. W analizie empirycznej wykorzystano wskaźniki wzrostu konsumpcji energii, wskaźniki udziału krajów i UE w globalnej konsumpcji energii, wskaźniki udziału źródeł energii w konsumpcji energii w wybranych krajach i UE, wskaźniki udziału głównych surowców energetycznych w imporcie i eksporcie UE i jej krajów. Udział ropy naftowej i gazu ziemnego wzrósł z 88,7% do 89,8%, a udział odnawialnych źródeł energii wzrósł z 0,1% do 1,4%. Zmiana niekorzystna z punktu widzenia polityki energetycznej UE to wzrost importu stałych paliw kopalnych, na co istotny wpływ miał wzrost importu Polski, Słowacji, Czech i Niemiec. Nie zmieniła się też istotnie struktura eksportu UE – dominuje ropa naftowa i gaz (73,5% i 13,3%). Pozytywną zmianę stanowi spadek udziału w eksporcie stałych paliw kopalnych z 8,8% do 2,8% (2000–2019).

The purpose of the paper is to investigate the multifaceted impact of the transformation of the energy sector on domestic economies and international economic relations under the conditions of growing global interdependence. The authors formulate the following research question: What were the changes in the consumption and structure of generating energy, as well as the structure of exports and imports of energy sources, resulting from the transformation of the energy sector in the EU? The following methods were used. The theoretical analysis of the energy sector transformation is based on an interdisciplinary approach proposed by representatives of the International Political Economy. The empirical analysis uses the following indicators: growth rates of energy consumption, shares of selected countries and the EU in the global energy consumption, shares of major sources in the consumption of energy in selected economies, shares of major energy sources in exports and imports of the EU and its member states. Considering the achievements of the EU’s energy policy focused on decreasing the consumption of energy and departing from traditional sources (especially coal) to renewables, the authors concentrate on the results and consequences of the energy policy in the EU. It revealed that the EU had better results on the global scale in limiting energy consumption in 2000–2020. However, the transformation of the energy sector that leads to greater use of renewables is still in the initial stages. Oil and natural gas remain the main sources of energy consumption. When evaluating the impact of transformation on EU energy trade, the dependence on high energy imports in the EU is notable, which actually increased in 2000–2019 from 56.3% to 60.7%. The structure of the imports remained basically the same. The share of oil and natural gas increased slightly, from 88.7% to 89.8%, and the share of renewables climbed from 0.1% to 1.4%. An unfavourable change from the point of view of EU energy policy is the growing share of solid fossil fuels, which was, for the most part, caused by imports to Poland, Slovakia, Czechia and Germany. The structure of exports was quite stable, with oil and natural gas as dominant sources (73.5% and 13.3%, respectively). However, the share of solid fossil fuels in EU exports decreased from 8.8% to 2.8% (2000–2019), which is a positive trend.
Climate change often referred to as global warming is one of the most important issues of the century, and is caused by many factors especially the activities emanating from industrial cluster. The paper therefore, underscores the influence of clustering on climate change. The paper adopts secondary sources of data; and has found out that despite the tremendous benefits of clustering in regional development, especially economic revamping, rejuvenation, overhauling and sustenance, it is not without some negative consequences. One of the major consequences is industrial pollution which has greatly increased atmospheric concentration of water vapour, methane, carbon-dioxide and nitrous oxide, all greenhouse gases which has significantly contributed to climate change. The paper further revealed the various consequences of global warming such as, large scale water and food shortages which can lead to catastrophic effects on wild life. Other consequence includes hurricane, droughts, heat waves and wild fire, changing ecosystem and acidifying ocean and other natural disaster. The paper has found out that, though clustering policy could be harnessed to launch a region into the desired goal of rapid industrialization; the negative impacts especially the emission of gases should be adequately curtailed by government through enacting environmental laws and regulations that promote sustainable industrial development. This could be achieved through the enforcement of pollution laws and control of the energy consumption of these industries. Nations should come together in order to provide solution to the problem of global warming.

Zmiany klimatyczne, często odnoszone do globalnego ocieplenia, stanowią jeden z najważniejszych problemów obecnego stulecia. Inne efekty obejmują susze i huragany, fale gorąca i niekontrolowane wybuchy pożarów, zmiany ekosystemów, zakwaszanie oceanów i całą gamę innych katastrof naturalnych.
The main objective of this article was to make a quantitative and qualitative attempt to examine the relationship and the correlations between the development of transport and fuel efficiency of resource use. The analysis has shown that road transport has now gained a special status in people’s daily lives. The increased mobility of European citizens has caused cars to currently have the greatest share of the energy needs of road transport. This happened in despite improvements in the energy efficiency of these cars and freight transport growth. The projected continued growth of freight transport will contribute to the further changes in the structure of energy consumption by road transport. Despite the high growth rate of energy efficiency and improvement in trucks, the share of demand for fuel by these vehicles will increase the total fuel demand for the road transport sector. At the same time the energy consumption of cars will reduce their share in the total fuel needs of transport. The improvements of energy efficiency of passenger cars and trucks will not offset the increase in demand for energy in road transport. The above regularities create a key challenge facing the transport system – how to meet the constantly growing demand for energy? An important issue in achieving the objectives of sustainable transport is not only the development of technology, but also human awareness shaping proper consumer preferences. The future of transport will depend on both the carriers and the customers.

Omawia podstawowe prawa i zasady regulujące relacje pomiędzy lotniskiem i środowiskiem, podobnie jaki opis kategorii oddziaływania: hałasu, emisji spalin, zużycia energii, wody i gleby oraz gospodarki odpadami.

EU countries face a serious problem of being too much dependent on the crude oil import. Transportation sector is especially dependent on import of fuels. Therefore The White Paper of 2011 outlines the need for more effective energy supplies management as one of the main European transportation policy objectives. Technical innovations, featuring a wider use of alternative fuels such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), liquefied natural gas (LNG) and bio-fuels play a great role in the process of ensuring energy safety.
Opracowanie zawiera wezwanie skierowane do rynków wschodzących do pogłębienia rynku obligacji w celu zwiększenia zużycia energii będącego rezultatem BIZ.

The study investigated the impact of the complementarity between foreign direct investment (FDI) and financial development on energy consumption in emerging markets. Although the relevance of the FDI‑led energy consumption hypothesis is no longer contestable, the combined influence of FDI and financial development on energy consumption is not yet resolved. Random and fixed effects show that the interaction between outstanding domestic private debt securities and FDI had a significant positive influence on energy consumption whereas pooled ordinary least squares (OLS) noted that the interaction between FDI and outstanding domestic public debt securities positively and significantly affected energy consumption. The dynamic generalized methods of moments (GMM) shows that the interaction between (1) FDI and stock market capitalization and (2) FDI and stock market value traded had a significant negative influence on energy consumption. The study urges emerging markets to deepen the bond sector market in order to enhance FDI‑led energy consumption.
Average full (including capital, operation and maintenance costs) annual heating costs in a standard family house with 180 m2 of floor surface are compared for various heating systems under the Polish economic conditions. The compared heating technologies comprise water to water and ground loop heat pumps with both vertical and horizontal loops, a liquid gas combustion furnace, an earth gas combustion furnace, a coal combustion furnace, a straw combustion furnace, a wood combustion furnace and an electric stove. A sensitivity analysis with regard to the interest rate and the value of owner’s work did not change the general conclusion that in most cases heat pumps were the cheapest, while oil and coal burning furnaces or an electric boiler the most expensive solutions. The cost of own labour was decisive for the appraisal of labour intensive systems.
