The enterprise as a system striving for homeostasis

80%
EN
The enterprise, constituting a system functioning in an environment, strives to maintain the state of homeostasis with it. Maintenance and restorement of homeo-stasis is one of the conditions of the enterprise’s survival and development.Dynamically changed conditions of the efficient enterprise in given phases of its life cycle result in creation of crisis situations which are reasons for upsetting the balance with the environment. Restorement of the balance often leads to redefini-tion of the objectives and changes in action strategies. The degree of economic risk also increases as it is related to taking non-routine decisions. It is absolutely essential to take decisions on the basis of information generated by the accounting system to protect against disturbance of the homeostasis state or to restore it. The role of accounting in this context is to provide information indis-pensable to diagnose the enterprise condition and to take decisions leading to ho-meostasis restorement. To be able to fulfill its tasks, accounting should evolve into a more active system, capable of realizing its stimulating function.

The aim of the paper is to point out that the Monte Carlo simulation is an easy and flexible approach when it comes to forecasting risk of an asset portfolio. The case study presented in the paper illustrates the problem of forecasting risk arising from a portfolio of receivables denominated in different foreign currencies. Such a problem seems to be close to the real issue for enterprises offering products or services on several foreign markets. The changes in exchange rates are usually not normally distributed and, moreover, they are always interdependent. As shown in the paper, the Monte Carlo simulation allows for forecasting market risk under such circumstances.

Industrial tax, based on archaic solutions, has aroused opposition since the beginning of its operating, especially in the context of the introduction of turnover tax which was given the features of consumption tax, and the maintained industrial certificates were given the features of revenue tax. It should also be remembered that the industrial tax acts were extremely complicated in their content, the legislator in one act tried to regulate as many economic issues as it was possible. Adopted solutions concerning industrial tax allowed the legislator to obtain permanent incomings to the state budget, the size of which, however, varied depending on the period and the social and economic situation, on average constituted 10% of the total revenues of the state budget. Attempts to rationalize the system of collecting industrial tax and breaking with the principle of unevenness of this tax, therein a mechanical combination of income tax and turnover tax, were made by the Act of 25 April 1938 on turnover tax. The tax reform was the result of changes in the tax system long awaited by entrepreneurs, mainly in the area of industrial tax. Unfortunately, due to the start of the war, the regulations did not enter into force.

The twenty-first century requires enterprises to change in their functioning, since management has been faced with an unprecedented challenge so far – it is the result of a turbulent external environment. Due to transformations the companies cannot continue to build their competitive advantages based on investments in tangible resources and cheap labour. They have to turn into organizations based on knowledge, skills and competencies, which involves the use of new management methods. Therefore, the most desirable employees are those who through education, skills and experience are able to help businesses operate on the market. Companies in their strategies appreciate knowledge workers, who in the world today, in the era of endless crisis, can decide and determine gaining a competitive position in the market. Przedsiębiorstwo jako system dążący do homeostazy

80%
PL
Przedsiębiorstwo, stanowiąc system działający w otoczeniu, dąży do zachowania z nim stanu homeostazy.

Small enterprises are a key source of employment, economic growth, innovation and productivity in advanced as well as emerging economies and as such they are a crucial sector of an economy. Access to financing plays an important role for the small enterprise sector in any economy. Based on previous empirical studies, it is known that small enterprises tend to suffer from limited access to financial resources across the globe. This study aims to investigate the current state of small enterprise financing although the data within the Polish context appears to be limited. While not every small enterprise has an opportunity to grow at a fast pace and turn into a much bigger entity, most owner-managers are concerned about financing their business, in order to sustain their business operations. The reality is that every business can experience some sort of financial trouble. Small enterprises are the ones that require more attention as they constitute a vital part of the Polish economy, their survival rate can have a significant impact on the economy. As such, analysis of small enterprise financing is called for due to the high vulnerability of these businesses.

One of the most important factor on the development in business, when we analize this subject from perspective of creative process impact, is an innovative factor. The factor of creativity means in this study, the role of development by a new product and a new concept, done by designer. Important in discussed context is meaning of the term "know-how" and how does it been understood, for example as a technological factor of innovation, which is to directly strengthen the efficiency indicator. Therefore, creative know-how and designer concept, perceived from the perspective of the company's strategy, seems to be an indispensable factor for dynamic and effective development. In consequence my reflections around the subject of the role the innovation enterprise is mainly motivated by the interest carried by the rules of the economic market, where designer’s concepts are used relatively recently in the process of building a business model for an enterprise, hence the definition of the process of product creation.

The intellectual legacy of Edward Lipiński is characterized by his interdisciplinary interests: apart from numerous publications on the history of Polish economic thought, there are many works on economic theory and social and economic policy in Poland. As an attentive and engaged economist, Lipiński criticized faults and perversions of the existing socialist economy and indicated the directions of its improvement. In his works on socioeconomic policy, he often compared socialism and capitalism, being aware of their virtues and shortcomings. As a dedicated socialist, Lipiński was looking for an authentic model of socialism, which could combine socialist ideas with some organizational solutions tested in the capitalist economy, especially regarding the functioning of enterprises. The main features of the proposed model of socialist economy can be found in his works on socioeconomic policy. The article shows the evolution of Edward Lipiński’s views on the so-called real socialism as a system that functioned in Soviet Union, and after II World War also in Poland and other CEE countries. The author shows the main features of the economic model proposed by Lipiński.

The article sets out to present a set of instruments to measure the advancement of globalization processes at the mesoeconomic level. This necessitates efforts to bring order to terminology involving the microeconomic aspects of globalization. The author offers an analytical arrangement for the examination of the influence of globalization processes on enterprises. The proposed instruments to measure the advancement of globalization processes at the mesoeconomic level are an attempt to straighten out the terminology and outline general rules and directions of further research, which should serve both company managers and researchers. The data presented by the author show the scope and dynamism of globalization and provide an analytical framework to determine the effect of globalization processes on enterprises. The proposed methods of measurement indicate the importance of knowledge about the advancement and dynamism of globalization in the sector as well as the formulation and implementation of enterprise strategies. The diagnosis of the advancement of globalization processes in Wielkopolska’s manufacturing industry confirmed the usefulness of the developed method. The analysis points to a clear intensification in the effect of globalization on enterprises in the Wielkopolska region in the analyzed period, coupled with a high probability of further intensification of globalization changes in the area of individual measures.

The paper aims to determine the role of social capital in a process known as the internationalization of the firm. The first part of the article focuses on the concept of corporate social capital as developed by economists Roger Leenders and Shaul Gabbay. The author discusses the features of ties between individual businesses and the structure of these ties as factors shaping the quality of social capital gathered inside a network. The author identifies social capital with a network of business ties, describing social capital as a term with a neutral connotation. Then the network model of the internationalization of the firm is invoked to build a theoretical bridge between social capital and the internationalization of the firm. Under this approach, the main factor behind the internationalization of the firm is membership in an appropriate network of ties. Finally, the author reviews research reports in terms of both gains and potential burdens linked with participation in the network from the perspective of the internationalization process. The coexistence of the positive and negative aspects of corporate social capital may suggest that social capital both stimulates and impedes the internationalization of the firm, Doryń says; however, the current state of empirical research in the analyzed area does not make it possible to put forward any normative recommendations to businesses, she adds. Overall, Doryń concludes that the issue of social capital and its influence on the internationalization of enterprises should be examined in combination with the specific goals of the firm.
