The objectives of the law are the desired outcomes of legal regulation. They are preferred by the legislature states of affairs. Determining the objectives of food law and their relationships is important, because it is necessary for the proper interpretation of the all provisions relating to this field of law. The objectives of food law are articulated in the Regulation No 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 January 2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety. Under that regulation, the objectives of food law are: the protection of human life and health, protection of consumers’ interests, protection of fair practices in food trade, protection of animal health and welfare and plant health, protection of environment and also achievement of the free movement of food in the Community. In article the author presents the scope of the objectives of food law and determines their relationship. The author concludes that the priority in food law is to protection of human life and health. Second main objective of food law, is protection of consumers’ interests. Other objectives are secondary. Protection of fair practices in food trade and ensure the free movement of goods, are only taken into account in the implementation of two basic objectives. The protection of the environment and the protection of animal health and welfare and plant health are taken into account where appropriate.

The issue of environmental protection through criminal law is primarily associated with the fight against the most serious attacks on the environment. The progressive degradation of natural ecosystems, which is an important consequence of the development of human civilisation, has shown that one of the most important challenges of modern man is to provide the environment with adequate and effective protection. It should be emphasized that although the main burden of such protection is implemented through administrative law and to a lesser degree through civil law instruments, the use of criminal law in environmental protection as an ultima ratio of this protection has proved to be absolutely necessary. Legal regulations regarding the criminal law protection of the environment in Poland have gone a long way in terms of development. It should be emphasized, however, that the shape and development of criminal law protection of the environment in Poland has been significantly influenced by European legislation, which was obviously related to Poland’s accession to the European Union in 2004 and international law, in particular the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, signed on March 3, 1973 in Washington, DC, and the Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal, which was opened for signature in Basel on March 22, 1989. The article presents the most important issues related to the impact of European and international law on the development of environmental protection through criminal law in Poland.

The research problem concerns the sphere of relationships with the environment and an individual's awareness in the aspect of satisfying the need for belonging. This research aims to determine the conditions of relationships with the environment and an individual's awareness in the process of personality formation. The research is constituted by an analysis of literary sources in education, psychology, philosophy and folklore studies as well as by a study of the formation process of a sense of belonging in Latvian folk songs or dainas. This research shows that a sense of belonging is associated with harmony between an individual and the surrounding environment. It is developed in the space of conditions for an individual's self-realisation that balances individual and social interests. For the development of inborn gifts, a natural environment of upbringing is needed. For the development of a sustainable education model in Latvia, the ideas found in Latvian dainas that have ascertained their sustainability may be of importance.

One of the main aims of companies is to reach quality of products and services. In particular, good quality of services is a highly rated factor so the price often stands behind. Nevertheless, many companies focus on the quality as the customer is willing to pay for it. The company is more competitive; however, they must strive to achieve continual improvements. Accepting the principles of sustainable development is one of the instruments or strategies to reach competitive growth. Currently this notion is being profaned and often considered only as a simple phrase, but many companies from different spheres, such as tourism, electrical engineering, retail, civil engineering, etc., show its real benefits. Companies create strategies of sustainable development following company competitiveness.

Within a lifetime, man creates a natural family environment and must care to protect it. A manifestation of this ecological activity in the family is the ability to experience love, to learn respect and live together with other people. The quality of these community relationships and the lifestyle that people experience in the family shape pro-ecological attitudes. Cooperating with the Creator, man cares for the protection of human life. Therefore, he undertakes actions aimed at eliminating degrading and destructive processes, and strives to live in harmony with the natural environment. In fact, man is an inseparable element of the environment, and therefore caring for his survival is most essential. Man is also called to rule the earth through work and development, while at the same time becoming spiritually mature and more responsible, especially towards the weak and needy.

The author highlights the need for the societies to become aware of the ecologically motivated ethics of responsibility. She discusses the division of ecological practices into “green” (e.g. establishments of reserves, protection of endangered species) and “grey” ones, which have been analyzed by P. Virilio, who defined them as “no longer an ecology of substance, but an […] ecology of the shrinking world.” According to the author, ecologically committed art contributes to propagating responsible attitudes, by drawing for instance on the tradition of avant-garde commitment. It is manifested in all currents which expose the dangers of the advancing technology and look for means of overcoming such threats (grey ecology).

EN
The author analyzes artistic practices associated with the natural world, “from land art to garden art”. In an overview of historical currents in art (since the 1960s), plant art is highlighted as an instrument of critique of land art, and a self-standing current which, among other things, addresses social issues and ecological threats. The author also analyzes specific examples of garden-related artistic practices within the cityscape, considering the criteria under which certain projects can be seen as successful (models to emulate). The text concludes with open-ended questions about the place of plant art in present-day critical discourses, i.e. with respect to landscape architecture, bioart, and technonature.

Landscape and the environment

The paper analyzes the concept of landscape and its various embodiments in art and nature. On the one hand, one can claim that our understanding of the landscape is constituted by conceptual oppositions like human/non-human, artifactual/natural, culture/nature; on the other, one may notice that landscapes occur in the space “between” these oppositions. Furthering this observation, I lodge an objection to the approach of certain exponents of environmental aesthetics who opt for replacing the notion of landscape by that of environment because I would argue that the former is still informative.

The present article aims to reflect on the relationship of man to nature, namely the relationship of culture and environmental crisis. The following considerations are largely based on the one hand, the concept of evolutionary ontology Šmajs Joseph, on the other hand, the idea of Erich Fromm that in the context of the environmental crisis and its relation to culture and humanity offer attractive incentives for reflection. This concerns in particular the attempt to develop a more moderate approach that could serve as an acceptable platform for further reflection on this issue. While such an approach is based on the traditional view on this issue, which in the last century attempted to justify the extension of moral respect to all living flesh, no response yet on their weaknesses and try to give new impetus to the still current discourse. Therefore your attention article focuses on reflection on the transformation of culture that in these contexts, the words ŠMAJS appears to be an evolutionary possibility and an existential necessity.

According to the Polish constitutional tradition, regulations concerning the duties of man and citizen can be found in chapter II of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland devoted to the rights and freedoms of the Polish Constitution, specifically in Articles 82-86 inclusive. The Constitution devotes relatively little space to its duties, and the catalog indicated therein is not extensive. The purpose of articulating obligations in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland is primarily to emphasize the most important ones from the point of view of the state, society and individual. In each country, some constitutional obligations are addressed only to citizens, while others are imposed on all who are subject to the authority of a given country. The Constitution of the Republic of Poland also does so. Indicated in art. 86 the obligation to care for the state of the environment and responsibility for its deterioration is in the group of universal obligations in terms of subject, which are imposed on every person who is within the jurisdiction of the Republic of Poland. This study is an analysis of the concept of environment, care for the state of the environment and the provisions of the constitution on this subject.

Sustainable development is closely related to animal welfare. Animal welfare is defined as a condition in which the animal cope with the conditions in which it lives. The animal is in good condition if (as scientific evidence suggests) is healthy, does not suffer discomfort, is well-nourished, safe, able to express innate behavior, does not feel pain, fear or anxiety. The issue of animal welfare has been regulated in a number of legal acts. At the EU level, these issues are primarily regulated by the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and a series of directives. At the Polish level, environmental protection has been regulated in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, without mentioning animal rights. This matter is regulated in detail by the Act on the Protection of Animal Rights.De lege ferneda, we should consider greater guarantees related to compliance with the law and sanctions related to inhumane farming of livestock or inhuman killing.

The main objective of the study is to identify and assess some chosen aspects of eco-innovativeness of the companies listed within such indices as WIG Energy, WIG Oil & Gas, WIG Basic Materials of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The scope of this analysis encompasses selected results which facilitate achieving environmental benefits. The investigation, however, does not discuss either expenditure on eco-innovative activities or the instruments measuring the influence of eco-innovation. The analysis of the investigated dilemma was based mainly on two research methods, namely survey analysis, as well as digital and documentary source analysis. The results indicate a relatively high eco-innovativeness of the companies in terms of organizational and marketing activities and low in product and services aspects.

The European Commission assumes that apart from the legal regulations and the other instruments, the market administrative instruments should be applied to a large extent, therein the systems of trading the powers to emission, taxes and grants, as the remunerative tool of realizing the ecological purposes and the other aims of the policy at the Union and national level. This is according to the Lisbon strategy, the strategy for the balanced development and the strategy towards the better legal regulations. The most important aspect of this longlasting role is the fact that these instruments afford the relevant, presented in this document, benefits for the fiscal goals, within the environmental protection and the allocation of the resources. By means of this document the Commission would like to initiate the discussion about the greater participating of the community market instruments in implementation of these purposes, particularly, if it concerns the indirect taxes. In this document there are also the other areas defined about applying the market instruments, in case of which the Community could facilitate the exchange of some verified solutions. The Commission expects the reaction to their presented conceptions and the answer to some basic particular questions and also the opinion about the market instruments, which of them would be the best to achieve the maximum of positive effects.

This paper emphasizes the role of universities in encouraging ecological initiatives for sustainable development. We characterized the origin of sustainability and its consistency with the Constitution of the Republic of Poland. Moreover, we present ecological education as the concept of lifelong learning in the spirit of respect for the natural world. The examples of pro-ecological higher education initiatives were described, such as Poznan School of Logistics (“EKO-LOG” programme), Jan Kochanowski University of Kielce and the University of Social and Medical Sciences in Warsaw (education of ethnic minorities), Andrzej Frycz-Modrzewski Krakow University and the University of Agriculture in Krakow (Friend of the National Park educational program) as well as the AGH University of Science and Technology (continuing education). It has been shown that schools and universities play a major role in environmental education not only for children, but also adults. It is worth mentioning that the potential and clout of universities should be continuously employed in the environmental movement.
