We współczesnej literaturze teologicznej, szczególnie w tekstach liturgicznych, często pojawia się słowo prezbiter, którym zastępuje się tradycyjne określenie kapłan. Przez słowo to próbuje się oddać ducha pism Nowego Testamentu i powrócić do tego, co było pierwotne w Kościele. Wydaje się jednak, że cały proces powrotu może mieć także i negatywne skutki. Niniejszy artykuł pragnie pokazać, jak szybko dokonała się zmiana w nazewnictwie i przejście od presbyteros-starszy do presbyteros-kapłan (sacerdos) oraz wątpliwości, jakie nasuwa proponowana zmiana w terminologii kapłańskiej.

In modern theological literature, especially in liturgical texts, the word ‘presbyter’ often appears, replacing the traditional term for a priest. Through that word the spirit of the New Testament is conveyed and a return to what was original in the Church is conveyed. It seems, however, that the whole return process can also have negative consequences. This article seeks to show how quick the change in name and the transition from presbyteros - elder to presbyteros - priest (sacerdos) were, as well as doubts raised by the proposed change in the terminology of priesthood.
