Brazilian Geography has evidenced environmental impacts, disputes in the territory, and conflicts for territory in the artisanal fishing. This essay establishes a dialogue between 71 dissertations and theses, defended between 1982 and 2015, and denunciations and reports of the social movements of artisanal fishing, exposed between 2012 and 2015, analyzed through techniques of content analysis, established the proposal of understanding the faces of modernization. These are confirmed in fieldwork conducted with social movements and with research groups dealing with artisanal fisheries. The theoretical discussions related to the modernization of the territory are also supported. This article highlights the "land expropriation" that has prevented or threaten the permanence of fishing communities in their traditional territories of residence and living because of the advance of tourism, land issues and real estate speculation.

A geografia brasileira tem evidenciado impactos ambientais, disputas no território e conflitos por território na pesca artesanal. Estabelecendo o diálogo entre 71 dissertações e teses, defendidas entre 1982 e 2015, e denúncias e relatórios dos movimentos sociais da pesca artesanal, expostos entre 2012 e 2015, analisados por meio de técnicas de análise de conteúdo, estabeleceu-se a proposta de compreensão das faces da modernização. Essas se confirmam em trabalhos de campo realizados junto aos movimentos sociais e com grupos de pesquisa que abordam a pesca artesanal. Também encontram suporte as discussões teóricas relativas à modernização do território. Destaca-se nesse artigo a face da “expropriação da terra” que tem impedido ou ameaçado a permanência das comunidades pescadores em seus territórios tradicionais de moradia e vivência por causa do avanço do turismo, das questões fundiárias e da especulação imobiliária.
