The impact of World War II on the community of Wilamowice Numerous causes of death of an ethnolect include not enough opportunity to use it in communicative situations. When it functioned as a full code of communication, the language was understood by all members of the community. Nowadays, the language of Wilamowice is known only by a small number of people and therefore free communication in said language is not possible. Language differentiation is an unquestionable fact, nonetheless its magnitude is not. The causes of the divergence are twofold: the first rests in our paucity of knowledge about the large number of languages; the other derives from the fact that there are no clear-cut linguistic criteria to differentiate between an individual language and a dialect of a language. Out of controversies within the status of such and similar tools of social communication rose the popularity of the concept and term of ethnolect. That languages are differentiated across the world can be approached from two points of view: a practical and communicative one (that can be the position held by communication engineering) and an anthropocultural one.

This text is an analysis of the specificity of a German standard language variant, used essentially by immigrant and native youth, called Kanakisch or Kiezdeutsch. Shifts from the standard, such as simplifications, which are stable, repetitive and predictable in character, and prejudice towards Turkish minority persistent in the German nation render Kanakisch useful in satire and comedy. The specificity of Kanakisch is well reflected in stories by Michael Freidank, the only set of fairytales in Kanakisch available thus far on the publishing market.
