The goal of the study is to answer the question about the educational values of cultural promotional events held in shopping malls. To achieve this goal, an ethnographic research was performed during three events in two shopping malls in Wrocław. It consisted of participatory observation and interviews with 6 participants of the events. The research is based on Knud Illeris’s theory of learning through everyday life (non-formal learning). During the study, it was observed that the organizers of the events use the newest methods of learning (including new technologies). The information is transferred in various ways and the extra attractions that are part of the events engage participants in creative activities. The gained knowledge can be theoretical or practical and it can encourage participants to change their life habits or to undertake various activities in their lives. It also makes accessible the previously inaccessible areas of reality. New knowledge usually does not create new structures and basically reconstructs the existing ones (accommodation learning). The learning process in shopping malls during the cultural events is a byproduct or a side effect ofpromotional activities, yet it takes place and it can improve the quality of life of the participants. Thus,a shopping mall, an institution of the consumer society, becomes an institution of the society of knowledge.

Objectives: Health care workers constitute a high-risk occupational category owing to the character of their work that includes high-risk environment, shift work and mental as well as physical stress. In occupational medicine, caring for their health condition should be a priority and include measures aimed at preventing cardiovascular diseases. The study aimed at determining the prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in employees of a large hospital and assessing their effect on the incidence of cardiovascular events. Materials and Methods: The group comprised 3124 employees with a mean age of 36.1 years (SD = 11.4), out of whom 562 were males (mean age of 37.1 years, range: 18-72; SD = 12.26) and 2562 were females (mean age of 35.9 years, range: 18-68; SD = 11.24). At their initial examination, the employees filled in a questionnaire on basic CVD risk factors (according to valid recommendations). This was supplemented with objective data to determine the risk of CVD using valid charts. From this group, a subset of persons at a high or intermediate risk was selected, comprising 247 individuals with a mean age of 54.1 years (SD = 5.73). After 5-9 years (mean 7.24±1.38 years), they either underwent another examination or their health status was ascertained by phone or in a computer database. The end point was the incidence of cardiovascular events (sudden death, acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, percutaneous coronary intervention, cardiac failure, stroke or transient ischemic attack). Results: The end point was noted in a total of 15 males (6.07%) and 6 females (2.42%), being statistically significantly present in managers (males p < 0.00007, females p < 0.00001), male physicians/surgeons (p < 0.025), tertiary-educated males (p < 0.0095), female smokers (p < 0.015), male ex-smokers (p < 0.007), overweight or obese males (p < 0.02) and those with the waist-to-hip ratio above 1.0 (p < 0.005). Conclusions: Cardiovascular events are most likely to occur in obese male physicians/surgeons holding managerial positions and in female managers.

Trzy główne wymiary modelu EMBOK (obszary, fazy i procesy) stanowią podstawę opracowania koncepcji wydarzeń, planowania i ich realizacji (m.in. festiwali, targów, konferencji, spotkań etc.).

The Event Management Body of Knowledge (EMBOK) has been developed by William O’Toole and Julia Rutherford Silvers. The intention behind this framework is to systematically review and improve its principles on the basis of the experience of event managers. The three EMBOK dimensions (Domains, Phases and Processes) are fundamental for the creation, development and delivery of an event (a festival, a fair, a conference, a meeting, etc.). It is of great significance for the creative sector to work out a solid foundation for event management based on the EMBOK Guide Matrix. A growing importance of the professionalization in event management generates new challenges also in the creative sector. The paper’s departure point is to consider the prospects of adapting the EMBOK model in Poland. The main objective of this article is to outline both strengths and weaknesses of the EMBOK model and also to recommend improvements to enhance the EMBOK reliability in the scope of event management within the creative sector.

In this article I want to show the exceptional character of Heidegger’s late writings with help of Daniela Vallega – Neu’s book, Heidegger’s Poietic Writings. Daniela Vallega – Neu attempts a reading not of philosophical works in the traditional sense, but of Heidegger’s collections of notes and reflections. In these, Heidegger searches for a language that would not simply speak directly about being, but would let the sense of being emerge in the thinking and saying. He attempts to open a path of thinking in order to prepare what he calls “the other beginning”. This is why she calls them Heidegger’s “poietic” writings, referencing the Greek word “ποίησις”. In this article, I want to show Heidegger’s pathos, in which he seeks the force of being in the more mystical attitude of his late writings. Their unortodox and intimate character differs greatly from that of traditional philosophical texts.

The growth of demand for large sporting events caused that the process of organizing this type of events has become extremely complicated and toilsome. This is a result of rising public expectations with regard to participation in the mega events which are characterized by unpredictability, complication, and provides fans with a lot of emotions, sense of fulfillment, loyalty and satisfaction. Innovativeness and the using of logistics as a concept to optimize the processes associated with the gala are a key success factors according to sporting event which the author has analyzed and interpreted. The article contains an example of Euro 2012, as a large-scale sporting event that except economical benefits has promoted Poland as an attractive brand.

In this paper, Author presents basic definitions found in the Polish literature concerning medical error and medical event. Author proposes her own definitions for the terms. The concept of a medical event was first used in the recent Act of 28 April 2011 amending the act on the patient's rights and Patient's Ombudsman, and the act on obligatory insurance, Guarantee Fund and the Polish Motor Insurers' Bureau, while the notion of a medical error has been used for long. Thus, Author examines differences between the two terms. Based on analysis, Author concludes that the occurrence of a medical event does not require us to demonstrate who has contributed its occurrence, while such demonstration is required in the case of a medical error. The two terms are associated with different scopes of liability for the occurred medical event or error, that is, a medical event is limited to therapeutic activities activity of hospitals while liability for a medical error may be attributed to all medicinal entities.

The text is an attempt to indicate innovatory terminological solutions and their critical reception of the so-called cultural theory of literature, being formed in the last decade, on the basis of the last proposal included in Poetyka doświadczenia (“Poetics of Experience”) by Ryszard Nycz. The author of the essay concentrates on the fundamental humanistic notions, for example experiencing, happening, paradigmaticality, interdisciplinarity in the studies into literature or intertextuality, which, from this viewpoint, are subject to redefinition and a kind of conceptualization. A separate place in these considerations is occupied by the comparison of the stance of the author of Sylwy współczesne with the recent writings of Michał Paweł Markowski and the argument with the analysis of specific case studies included in the ending of Poetics of Experience.

This text is a review of the book Sport Tourism by Ewa Malchrowicz-Mośko. The review analyses the topics proposed by the author, attempts to define them, and presents examples. The review focuses on the thematic division proposed in the book: into the history and development of tourism, the issue of sports events, the very phenomenon of sports tourism, and contemporary manifestations of sports tourism. The text focuses on the valuable advantages, but also tries to be critical of the publication and to highlight its weaker elements. Above all, however, it is an attempt to take a constructive approach to the subject of sports tourism and to encourage the use of a peer-reviewed book.

The aim of this article is to provide a critical study of the phenomenology of sociality as it is proposed in Heidegger’s account of historicity and collective happening, put forward in Sein und Zeit. On the basis of this account and in view of a critical, but still constructive, interpretation of it, we arrive at the conception of sociality which is sketched in Nancy’s works La communauté désoeuvrée and Être singulier pluriel. This movement is connected with a stress on the opposition between project and event which comes out in the way social change is perceived. We are not, therefore, concerned with investigating sociality in its static form, which would by its very nature deny the character of social interaction, but with investigating the dynamic of social changes which can be seen either through the prism of project or through the prism of event. Deeper investigation, however, shows that social changes do not necessarily have the character of pure project or pure event. Much more often we encounter processes which have both the character of a project and an event. The key to this way of comprehending social processes is to be provided by Nancy’s reinterpretation of Heidegger’s Mitsein and of the collective happening of human existence.

The aim of this paper is to interpret systematically M. M. Bakhtin’s views on genre. Although Aristotle was the first philosopher-and one of the first thinkers in general who focused on the issues of artistic and rhetorical genres, philosophy as such did not treat these issues for a considerably long time. One of the first philosophers who approached the genre issue within the larger context of the philosophy of language was Mikhail M. Bakhtin, a Russian philosopher and a literary scholar. As early as the 1920s he founded philosophical thinking on the so-called small speech genres, which later served as the basis for a remarkable theory of primary and secondary genres. Bakhtin is a world renowned theoretician on the novel, but his genre theory is nevertheless very topical, too, since it relates to issues focused on by philosophers much later.

The article aims to study the usages of the “people” as a critical idea in the texts of two contemporary radical political philosophers: Slavoj Žižek and Alain Badiou. The author’s intention is not so much to point out the divergence between them, rather it is to grasp a common trend imposing the figure of the “people” as a main subject of the political and as a source of a desired, but hardly conceivable social change. The strong appeal to an epochal rupture, yet unsupported by any utopia, could be considered as a double crisis—of the institutions of liberal democracy as well as of the critical imagi-nation itself.

This paper briefly discusses the presentation of the verbs in the first electronic Bulgarian-Polish dictionary that is currently being developed under a bilateral collaboration between IMI-BAS and ISS-PAS. Special attention is given to the digital entry classifiers that describe Bulgarian and Polish verbs. Problems related to the correspondence between natural language phenomena and their presentations are discussed. Some examples illustrate the different types of dictionary entries for verbs.

This article describes current state of a trilingual parallel corpus consisted of texts in two Slavic (Bulgarian and Polish) and one Baltic language (Lithuanian). The corpus contains original literary texts (fiction, novels, and short stories) in one of the three languages with translations to the other two, and texts in other languages translated into Bulgarian, Polish, and Lithuanian. A part of the texts are aligned at the sentence level. The authors propose a semantic annotation of verbs appearing in these aligned texts that will facilitate contrastive studies of natural languages. A theoretical background for the proposed semantic annotation is briefly also discussed.

In recent decades, the internet has become our predominant public space and yet the role of art in this space remains largely unthought. This paper argues that graphic art, and in particular digital graphic art, has great power to shape and transform our thinking and experience. But with that power comes an enormous political and ethical responsibility, a responsibility too often ignored by programmers and computer scientists. This paper uses the work of Denis Schmidt and Jacques Taminiaux as important resources for developing a Heideggerian response to this lack.

In this article, I make an attempt to elucidate the problem of violence in Foucault’s genealogy that, following Nietzsche’s genealogy, seems to be based on the concept of a conflict of forces. Thus, the war of forces that constitutes history is the first dimension in which the presence of violence can be described in Foucauldian philosophy. The second dimension refers to violence taken as the effect of an interplay between forces. Both aspects allow us to think on violence, not in terms of natural objects, but in terms of relations and simultaneously to challenge the established concept of violence as something necessarily related to brute force or aggression.
