Potencjał i wyzwania instytucjonalnych badań szkolnictwa wyższego. Przykład Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego

Badania związane ze szkolnictwem wyższym są polem zróżnicowanym i pełnym sprzeczności. Z jednej strony bardzo cenione jest podejście interdyscyplinarne i porównania międzykrajowe, z drugiej zaś prowadzonym badaniom zarzuca się zbytnią lokalność. Stan badań w poszczególnych krajach zależy od uwarunkowań instytucjonalnych i historycznych. Widoczny jest rozdźwięk między badaniami stricte naukowymi a stosowanymi, typowymi dla sfery ewaluacji i przygotowywanymi na potrzeby budowania samowiedzy uczelni lub tworzenia polityk publicznych. W artykule omówiono funkcjonowanie takich badań w praktyce, oparto się na literaturze dotyczącej stanu badań nad szkolnictwem wyższym, omówiono ich potencjał naukowy, a także niektóre wyzwania i bariery związane z realizacją takich celów na przykładzie wybranych badań prowadzonych na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim.

Research studies conducted at higher education institutions are diverse and full of contradictions. On the one hand, an interdisciplinary approach and cross-country comparisons are highly valued, on the other hand, studies are accused of being too local. The state of the discipline in different countries largely depends on institutional and historical circumstances. A certain discrepancy exists between rigorous scientific research and applied research, typical for the field of evaluation and prepared for the purpose of building academic self-knowledge or creating public policies. This paper takes a closer look at the functioning of such studies in practice and, on the basis of the literature, discusses their scientific potential and several challenges and barriers in achieving such goals. They are presented using the example of selected studies conducted at the University of Warsaw.
