The aim of this article is to present the Visegrád Group’s position towards the contemporary European migrant crisis. The author seeks to answer two main questions: what is the degree of coherence of the Group’s position and what are the internal factors of the V4’s stance towards the crisis? The article analyses the political situation in the Group’s member states, the V4’s stance towards the earliest propositions concerning the migrant crisis, its fight against the implementation of the mandatory quotas, its stance towards the implementation of the EU’s decisions and internal factors of the V4’s policies. The author argues that although the members of the Group differ in their approach to many international issues, their attitude towards the crisis is very similar.

The article examines the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa on the overall security in African countries, especially in the southern regions of the continent. In the first part, the author discusses the prevalence of the disease in the army and African peace keeping forces, which necessarily weakens their military prowess. The second part is focused on the negative effects of the disease on the economic development and security of various countries. The closing part of the article presents debilitating impact of the disease on women and children, especially in urban settings. The author concludes that the sheer scale of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa must be taken into account in any macro-economic and political analyses of the situations of the countries affected by it.

The article concerns selected problems in the bilateral cooperation between Poland and Romania in 2009–2017. The study attempts to identify the challenges these countries face and how they take action in this regard. The article presents the problem of political and economic cooperation between Poland and Romania in the examined period of time. Issues such as cooperation in the area of external security, energy security or cooperation within the framework of the Three Seas Initiative were discussed. It is important that the joint activities undertaken by Romania and Poland contribute to increasing the attractiveness of the region of Central and Eastern Europe.

Looking through the history of the international order is not consistent form in the life of nations. Changes in the international situation is not always beneficial pose new challenges. Variability and dynamics of emerging challenges forcing states and nations to permanent effort towards ensuring the security of the state and its citizens. Therefore, it becomes extremely important to develop and implementing the national security strategy. This article presents the national security strategy of the Polish Republic 2014 years. This strategy recognizes the complex issues of national security and shows how best to use for the security needs of all resources remaining at the disposal of the state in the field of defense, protection, social and economic.

The article The Eyes and Ears: 1) Provides a brief analysis of the several parallel security organizations of the two superpowers of antiquity when they were still at their prime; 2) Discusses both internal and external security matters; 3) Analyzes separately the military and civilian intelligence; 4) Examines the role of the religious organizations, ‘heresies’ and security; 5) Discusses briefly the ways in which the intelligence was obtained, analyzed, assessed and disseminated, and for what purpose; 6) Provides an overview of the successes and failures and of the limits of intelligence; 7) Demonstrates some similarities between modern and ancient practices.
