Współczesna rodzina doświadcza wielu zagrożeń prowadzących do poważnych problemów rozwojowych, a nawet rozpadu rodziny. W ostatnich 30 latach w Polsce bardzo intensywnie rozwinęły się różnorodne formy profilaktyki oraz terapii rodzin i małżeństw nastawione na ograniczanie patologii i dysfunkcji. Ewidentnie brakuje jednak takich oddziaływań, które koncentrowały by się w pracy z rodziną na jej zasobach i czynnikach chroniących. Szansą na zmianę tej sytuacji jest intensywnie rozwijająca się koncepcja resilience. Każda rodzina, nawet ta zagrożona ma swoją prężność i odporność na sytuacje trudne i rożne przeciwności losu. Prężność rodziny budują: system przekonań rodzinnych, organizacja rodziny i jej zasoby oraz komunikacja w rodzinie. Nowoczesna profilaktyka nie może opierać się wyłącznie na redukcji zagrożeń. Musi ona odwoływać się do prężności rodzinnej i swoich zasobów.

The contemporary family experiences many threats causing serious developmental problems. Diverse forms of the prevention and therapy of families have been developing very intensively in Poland for 30 years. However in the work with the family they evidently miss such influences that would be concentrated on family resources and protecting factors. An intensively developing researches on resilience concept is a chance of the change. Every family, even the one endangered, has both a resilience and different adversities to difficult situations. The resilience of families is being build on: the system of family beliefs, the organization of the family, her resources and the communication. The modern prevention cannot be based exclusively on reduction of threats. It must appeal to the family resilience and her resources.
