The article presents research on the family violence prevention system family from the perspective of social assistance. The position of social welfare and the role of social worker in this system are discussed. A specific social position and the key role of social worker in the system of prevention of violence have been confirmed. Study also shows the diversity of the system preventing domestic violence, which differs depending on the size of the municipality. In smaller communities, it is based primarily on the social workers and in the larger communties it is largely supported by other professionals: psychologists and lawyers.

Spiritual consequences of domestic violence and the possibility of helping its survivors by the Catholic Church differ from the ones provided by the state. The Church sees every human being as a gift of life offered by the Creator. According to His teachings, the purpose of life, the purpose of Christian spirituality, is reaching fullness both temporally and eternally. Therefore, all human experiences – good and bad – have a deep sense and purpose. Violence, which has been with us since the very beginning of humanity, is evil that we have to renounce and atone for; it is a contradiction of love. However, no matter what penalty is administered on a guilty person, God gives a sacrament of confession, which is one of the healing sacraments that open the way to repentance and forgiveness. One has to bear in mind that regardless of its form – physical, psychological, economical, or self-destructing behavior – every act of violence is, for a believer, not only a violation against human norms but also a sin against God’s majesty. Clerics can and should help both victims and perpetrators of violence because they have experience and knowledge of human problems and tragedies; on the one hand, they perform the sacrament of reconciliation, on the other hand, they can work with families struck by violence, supporting them on the way to reconciliation and forgiveness.

Violence against women, especially in the context of family violence, casts a question whether it is a social or  perhaps a family, private problem. The Police’s reaction to reported acts is currently a fundamental problem. Disregarded reports may cause further humiliating living under violence for wman, while a man becomes strengthened in his heartless and commanding role. In addition,, a conviction appears in victims that the police is ineffective, unreliable; hence it is better to keep the affair ‘within the four walls at home’. What i sit like in Poland? Do women often report the violence practiced by their partners? Ae they satisfied with the Police reaction? The results gained in IVAWS survey in Poland make the content of this paper.
