This paper demonstrates personal safety as a vital element in a human being’s life, as the number and types of threats are growing. People quite often experience enslavement in various aspects of their functioning. It is not always the result of external threats, but also of individual No.s. A human being has many options, and a multitude of possibilities and opportunities, while these in turn can create chaos. Contemporary enslavement is growing increasingly rapidly on the global scale, having spread across nearly all spheres of life. Enslavement has also become multidimensional, similarly to freedom. This paper encompasses the characteristics of an enslaved person, and the sense of personal freedom. The central concept of this paper shows that personal (individual, human) safety, together with the sense of peace, stability, and own development, are the most important values in the life of every human being.
The study is based on data from a sociological survey conducted in 2017 in North Bohemia – a high-risk region both in terms of crime and existing social problems. The aim of the article is to identify differences and important determinants of perceived security within sub-regions of the analyzed area. Using a logistic regression analysis, we found that not only perceived neighborhood disorganization but mainly perceived tension between social groups is a strong predictor of perceived security. On the other hand, the analysis did not show any substantial influence of socio-demographic characteristics. The inter-groups tension represents a particular measure of concerns nevertheless it probably covers a broader scope of local problems including the social exclusion issue. The authors discuss the outcome as a special feature in the context of theories of disorganization, incivility and strain.
The article analyses exemplary conditions of the emergence feeling of threat from immigrants in the receiving society. The theoretical basis of the analysis is the social relation between the “native” and the “stranger” as a space for the emergence of xenophobic attitudes. The perspective of critical realism made it possible to understand the feeling of threat from the "stranger" as a phenomenon which is relationally conditioned on many levels of social reality
