The presented study aims to introduce thinking about anti-communist movies, which were produced in the United States at the beginning of the Cold War. Approximately forty feature movies, usually known as the anti-communist cycle, were gradually analyzed by historians of the Cold War, political scientists or journalists. They attempted to put these movies in context and explore traces of contemporary society in them. Part of this study is a clear summary of prevailing arguments and references to disputable points of the current research. The result is a proposal of a new categorization of the anti-communist cycle, which emphasizes traditional methodological sources and tools of the new film history or formal approaches as well.

Předložená studie si klade za cíl představit myšlení o antikomunistických filmech, které vznikly ve Spojených státech na počátku studené války. Přibližně čtyřicet celovečerních hraných snímků, označovaných zpravidla jako antikomunistický cyklus, postupně analyzovali historici studené války, politologové i novináři. Pokoušeli se zasadit sledované filmy do kontextu a vysledovat v nich stopy soudobé společnosti. Součástí této studie je přehledné shrnutí převažujících argumentů a zmínění sporných bodů dosavadního výzkumu. Výsledkem je návrh vlastního členění antikomunistického cyklu, které akcentuje krom tradičních metodologických zdrojů rovněž nástroje nové filmové historie či formálních přístupů.
