The process of cognition usually ends with an attempt to name and understand the searched/encountered phenomenon. The essence of sacrum is not observable simply because as „we do not have direct access to the quantum world via our senses”, but it does exist. Remembering the words of L. Wittgenstein which state that „the borders of the language (the only language I understand) constitute the borders of my world”, one ought to take one of the ways leading to our subject of cognition. A direct arising in the sphere of sacrum can be both a mental and emotional anticipation of the essence of subject we are heading to, and whose spatial frame is determined by architectonic objects. In its sensory meaning sacrum materializes itself often in a form of sacred chapels, paintings, sculptures, fragments of buildings, landscape etc. In the following article an attempt to select one of the ways that can lead to more complete contact and understanding of a sacred, materialized phenomenon which is referred to as sacrum. One, however, ought to bear in mind that the attempt at reaching the essence of such a place is a difficult task because just like „watching a wild brook does not concern the flow, the sound or reflexes of this particular brook but the general concept of a brook: unbridled push of unformed matter”, the understanding and sensing of sacrum escapes a clear codification.

The purpose of the article is to interpret Marina Abramović’s project – The Artist Is Present – within the theories of liveness and encounter. First of all, we define post-mediatic culture referring to Piotr Celiński’s proposals and the term ‘encounter’ according to Adam Węgrzecki. Finally, we propose some considerations on the encounter as a methodological approach to the phenomena whose main characteristic is liveness (Peggy Phelan and Philip Auslander). Finally, we pass to the analysis of the performance of Marina Abramović The Artist Is Present based on the considerations made previously.

Tristes Tropiques, about the joy of getting familiar with the other. An analysis of the meeting appears together with deliberations considering the dialog philosophy and usually regards interpersonal relations: “man – man” or “God – man”. The most important trend of this reflection have its root in thinkers like Martin Buber or Franz Rosenzweig and later in Emmanuel Levinas. Their contemplation, confronted with the content of Tristes Tropiques and ethnographic procedures of Lévi-Strauss, creates surprising contexts. Patryk Filipowicz/Smutek tropików czyli o rados´ci... It turns out that unveiling the structure and the mechanism doesn’t have to be identified beforehand with taking away an object of the research, with insight.

Buber is one of the leading representatives of the philosophy of dialogue – a current also called the philosophy of encounter or the philosophy of the other – which emerged as a separate trend after the First World War. In contrast to thinking, which seeks to present the human being within the existing system, the philosophy of dialogue rejects the prevailing philosophy of the subject and opposes the possibility of the subjective experience of the other. The place of a lonely, rational subject is taken by the fully autonomous other, with whom engaging in direct dialogue is possible. Describing different areas of relationships in which humans live, Martin Buber is looking for possibilities of a true encounter which would eventually become a manifestation of meaning. The aim of this study is to present the human dialogical lifestyle, the way leading to the discovery of the true nature of relationships and their pedagogical inspirations.

The article presents historiosophical considerations on the encounter (meeting) as a philosophical category, which may become one of the constitutive terms in the description of specifics of adult educational activity. The author proposed a four-level model, searching for rationale for the differentiation of the encounter nature, depending on the teaching or learning processes dominating in the given education model and time in history. The final part demonstrates selected challenges which result from the post-constructive forms dedicated to adults, occurring on the educational market.
