Results of studies on IT solutions advancement, financial situation, logistic costs, market position, and IT support for logistics quality level in Polish agri-food production companies are presented in the paper. This sector is very dispersed (98.9% are small and medium companies, and 69.7% with employment under 10 persons). Research was based on survey conducted among 511 food processing companies in 2010-2011. Results showed no correlation between IT solutions advancement and financial situation of company except for dairy and meat industries. In all industries an association between IT advancement level, market position and quality of computer support for company logistics was detected.

This paper presents the results of studies of the relationship between level of advancement of IT solutions used in Polish enterprises of food processing and the company's financial situation, logistic costs, position on the market against the sector, and quality of IT support of logistics. The results showed no significant correlation between IT solutions advancement level and financial situation, and logistic costs. These results corresponds with the productivity paradox signaled in the literature. However, there was an average correlations between the IT solutions advancement level and position on the market against the sector, and quality of IT support of logistics. The studies used the results of a survey conducted in 2009-2011 among Polish food processing sector enterprises.

The world economic crisis was a major factor that caused industrial production and trade over the globe decrease. It closed millions of working places and effected fear of political instability to spread even over the states that have been considered as stable. Economies all over the world face with wide range recessions, that will lead to the 3% to 7% GNP drop with respect to the last decade increasing trend. In such uncertainty conditions, where authorities are not sure about crisis development and duration, banner task is imposed: uncertainty must be passed. In Serbian economy, good model for crisis overcoming is agriculture strategic development and especially within it, the safe food production. One of guidelines of Serbian agriculture development is modernization and change of production structure towards stronger market orientation and improvement of alimentary industry total efficiency. Increased productively technological restructuring achieving increased efficiency, as well as greater competitiveness at domestic and foreign markets should be based on economical, ecological and energy criterions. Also, applied scientific research papers should allow significant increase of size and competitiveness of Serbian agriculture production.

Artykuł dotyczy wizji dobrego życia, która realizowana jest w niszowym modelu mobilności zawodowej, polegającym na rezygnacji z pracy w zawodach klasy średniej, opartych na pracy umysłowej, na rzecz pracy przy produkcji jedzenia i w gastronomii. Model ten popularyzowany jest przez media lifestylowe i kulinarne, które zachęcająco opowiadają podobne historie biograficzne. Tekst artykułu bazuje na indywidualnych wywiadach pogłębionych z osobami, które faktycznie zdecydowały się na taką zmianę ścieżki zawodowej. Głównym problemem artykułu jest wpisana w analizowane narracje sprzeczność między przynależnością do hegemonicznej wizji kariery, w tym normalizacją kreatywności w stosunku do własnej biografii, a postrzeganiem decyzji zmiany zawodowej jako pewnej alternatywy lub kontestacji. Kontekstami prowadzonej analizy są: szersza redefinicja znaczeń związanych z jedzeniem w kulturze oraz ideał zacierania granic między czasem wolnym a pracą zawodową. W artykule wskazuje się również na sensotwórczy – dzięki namacalności rezultatów – charakter pracy z jedzeniem, a także jej potencjał do budowania nowej (rezonansowej) relacji z otoczeniem.

The article refers to a vision of the good life realized in a niche model of professional mobility: resigning from a middle-class profession and changing to the work in craft food production or gastronomy. This model is popularized by culinary media that encourage this type of biographical scenario. The article is based on the in-depth interviews with people in Poland who decided to change their professional career according to the above model. The main problem that the article focuses on is a contradiction between the hegemonic normalization of creativity in relation to one’s own biography, on the one hand, and the perceived alternativeness of this career change with regard to hegemonic ideology, on the other. The analysis is set in the contexts of both the broader shift in the socio-cultural meanings of food and an ideal of blurring the boundaries between leisure and work. The article also refers the sense-making nature of professional food work that is due to the tangibility of its effects as well as to its potential to build a new (resonance-like) relationship with the world.

The purpose of the research study is to present and analyse the principles of the functioning of the traceability in the food chain including the used methods of identifi cation. Analysis of the literature shows that risk sources identifi cation via food movement and its origin tracking reduces the potential risks possibility and infl uences the food safety level. The development of information technology allows to support traceability process by advanced computer systems. Used in the enterprise ERP systems using tools such as barcodes to identify whether the RFID create traceability of products throughout the production process and distribution. In case of detection any threat to allow for quick response in order to halt the production, distribution and withdrawal of defective products from the market.

Celem opracowania było przedstawienie istoty oraz zasad funkcjonowania systemu śledzenia produktu w łańcuchu dostaw żywności, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem stosowanych do tego celu mechanizmów identyfi kacji. Analiza literatury przedmiotu dowodzi, że identyfi kacja źródeł ryzyka przez system śledzenia ruchu oraz pochodzenia żywności ogranicza możliwość wystąpienia w niej potencjalnych zagrożeń oraz wpływa na poziom bezpieczeństwa żywności. Rozwój technik informatycznych pozwala na wspomaganie procesu traceability przez zaawansowane systemy komputerowe. Stosowane w przedsiębiorstwach systemy ERP, wykorzystujące takie narzędzia identyfi kacji jak kody paskowe czy identyfi kację drogą radiową, stwarzają możliwości śledzenia produktów w całym procesie produkcji oraz dystrybucji. W przypadku wykrycia jakiegokolwiek zagrożenia pozwalają na szybką reakcję w celu wstrzymania produkcji, dystrybucji oraz wycofania wadliwych produktów z rynku

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are handled differently in different countries. Whereas global acreage of GMOs jumped to 134 million hectares in 2009 [Cultivation... 2010], in many European countries opposition to GMOs is still strong, and their acreage is very small. This situation poses a difficult situation for many companies and their corporate social responsibility [CSR] strategies. Against this background, we conducted an online survey of 170 agribusiness firms in order to shed some light on how companies handle the conflict between, on the one hand, the growing use of GMOs worldwide and, on the other, the rejection of GMOs by European consumers. The empirical results show that many agribusiness firms perceive the use of GMOs as a highly relevant management issue that shapes their CSR strategies. All in all, agribusiness firms apply a wide spectrum of CSR activities; furthermore, CSR is considered a top management responsibility. GMOs are of aboveaverage relevance in firms that have been criticized for their attitudes towards and use of GMOs. The empirical results have interesting implications for the management of CSR and legitimacy in the agribusiness sector.

L’articolo di propone di formulare un giudizio preliminare riguardo alle proposte presentate per la PAC 2021-2027, in particolare riguardo al loro carattere a favore degli obiettivi stabiliti per i sistemi alimentari sostenibili, inclusi nella strategia della Commissione europea "dal campo alla tavola". Secondo l'autrice, le ipotesi prestabilite per i sistemi alimentari sostenibili, e incluse nel documento discusso, corrispondono ad alcuni degli obiettivi della politica agricola comune contenuti nel Trattato sul funzionamento dell'Unione europea. Tuttavia, per esprimere un giudizio finale, ossia per rispondere alla domanda se la nuova politica agricola comune avrà effetti per la costruzione di sistemi alimentari sostenibili, è necessario riferirsi non solo ad una regolazione futura, in vigore dalla prossima prospettiva di finanziamento, ma anche agli effetti che la sua applicazione porterà a produrre. Un cambiamento radicale prodottosi negli orientamenti della politica agricola comune, nonché l’attuazione degli obiettivi di sviluppo sostenibile possono portare a far nascere una situazione di confronto e concorrenza tra strumenti di sostegno al reddito agricolo e quelli di protezione ambientale, compresa la tutela del clima, a scapito di questi ultimi.

The focus of this article was at a preliminary assessment of whether the proposed assumptions of the Common Agricultural Policy for 2021–2027 could be considered conducive to the objectives of sustainable food systems included in the European Commission's “From farm to fork” strategy. In the author's opinion, the assumptions of sustainable food systems contained in this document correspond to some objectives of the Common Agricultural Policy included in the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. The final assessment whether the new common agricultural policy will bring effects from the point of view of building sustainable food systems requires making a reference not only to the future legal regulation which will apply in the next financing perspective, but also to the effects of its application. A radical change in the directions of the Common Agricultural Policy and implementation of sustainable development objectives may lead to a confrontation and competition of agricultural income support instruments with those for environmental protection including climate protection, at the expense of the latter.

Celem artykułu jest wstępne ustalenie, czy projektowane założenia Wspólnej Polityki Rolnej na lata 2021–2027 można uznać za sprzyjające celom zrównoważonych systemów żywnościowych ujętym w strategii Komisji Europejskiej „Od pola do stołu”. Zdaniem autorki niektóre cele Wspólnej Polityki Rolnej zawarte w TFUE korespondują z założeniami zrównoważonych systemów żywnościowych ujętymi w omówionym dokumencie – strategii „Od pola do stołu” . Ostateczna ocena tego, czy nowa Wspólna Polityka Rolna przyniesie efekty w obszarze budowania zrównoważonych systemów żywnościowych będzie wymagać odwołania się nie tylko do przyszłej regulacji prawnej, odpowiadającej kolejnemu okresowi finansowania, ale także do skutków jej stosowania w przyszłości. Radykalna zmiana kierunku Wspólnej Polityki Rolnej i realizacja celów zrównoważonego rozwoju może doprowadzić do konfrontacji i konkurencji instrumentów wsparcia dochodów rolniczych z instrumentami ochrony środowiska, w tym klimatu, kosztem tych ostatnich.

As a part of the strategies identified during the Estates General of livestock farming, the Region of Piedmont has financed a project in order to verify the level of appreciation of medium heavy swine in the swine sector. The Region has involved the Department of Commodity Science of Turin University and APS Piemonte (pig farmers association) in carrying out a specified study [Aceto et al. 2011; Peira et al. 2011]. The results of the study intended to investigate the speck supply chain are set forth below.
