LAMS Chat and Forum were used to conduct in-class online conversations with second year university students to raise the level of engagement with their compulsory class texts. These discussions overcame students’ reluctance to speak up in class, avoided the conversation being dominated by one or two of their classmates, could accommodate simultaneous small groups and moved the discussion to a student-centred activity. As LAMS Chat and Forum retains all previous history, students’ contributions could be reviewed at any time and formally assessed. The marked improvement in the students’ engagement with the texts has ensured the discussions will continue to be included in the program.

The teachings of John Paul II are present in many mass media which refer to the content signed by him. His person, treated by many Christians as an authority, appeared in the discourse of Internet media such as, for example, Catholic forums. One of them is Polish Forum Cross – Tradition. Liturgy. Culture. This article presents the results of selected content relating to euthanasia, abortion and social relations. The aforementioned study was performed by means of a qualitative analysis of the content directly related to that undertaken by the participants of the mentioned forum.

The article offers a two-dimensional analysis of the discussion forums on Polish news and information websites, as a public space of political discourse. The author employed statistical analysis for quality variables and interpretation of narrative patterns. The primary aim of the study was to determine the nature of debate in the area under consideration, in the context of exacerbated political dispute. The obtained results were compared with previous findings of this author.

The aim of this article is to present the concept of a break-up on Russian and English love forums. In the center of our interest was the question how the feelings and emotions are narrated and whether there are any noticeable gender or cultural differences. Computer Mediated Communication Discourse Analysis was used as a scientific method in this research. The results of the research show that there are several patterns of behavior which influence the discourse of forum users. Linguistic analysis of the discourse revealed differences between normal communication and computer mediated communication.

The paper aims to present the potential, for foreign language students, of the exolingual interactions online in public and open forums. For the analysis of students’ commentaries, I apply the observation categories that were first elaborated for the analysis of posts published in press sites. I focus on narrative commentaries in which web users organize phenomena and events discussed in public discourse and try to give them their individual interpretation. I consider this kind of interaction on press sites as contributing to the civic debates: I argue that they can be also integrated in observation categories used to describe and analyze exchanges between students discussing social issues in reference to foreign language media information. In the paper I present two kinds of commentaries: those written by native speakers in public forums and those written by FL students in response to public commentaries.

The article traces the evolution, activity and prospects of functioning of G-7, G-8 and G-20 – formulas of global cooperation that play an immensely significant role in shaping the emerging model of global governance. The author assumes that global governance means transferring onto the highest level the activity proper to governments with the difference that their competences of power are replaced by the activity of the so called controllers understood as the entirety of formal institutions, regimes and informal forums of exchange of information, experiences and of reaching compromise. Among the latter in the 1990s emerged G-7 which over two decades later transformed into G-8. Initially, this informal forum of dialogue dealt with financial matters but subsequently began to expand its agenda to economic issues and eventually to political concerns. Following the changes induced by the Asia crisis of 1997 and then the financial crisis of 2008 a new element of global governance architecture appeared, i.e. G-20. Since 1999 this group has operated on the level of finance ministers and central banks managers, joined in 2008 by state leaders.

Recenzent ocenił książkę bardzo wysoko i wypunktował jej najważniejsze wątki.

The article is devoted to establishing of the influence peculiarities in the British and Ukrainian virtual dialogical communication on the material of such genres as chats, blogs and forums. The isomorphic and allomorphic features of the use of lexicon in interlocutors’ behavior as a significant instrument of communicative influence are established and analyzed. The lexicon is compared according to the strata of elevated and low vocabulary of the present-day English and Ukrainian languages. The percentage of the words is presented in every genre of a dialogue in the comparative view and a general statistic conclusion is made on the basis of the data of the whole virtual format of communication.

Статья посвящена изучению влияния в британской и украинской виртуальной диалогической коммуникации на примере таких жанров, как чат, блог и форум. Установлены и проанализированы изоморфные и алломорфные признаки использованного во взаимодействии лексикона, который является одним из инструментов коммуникативного влияния. Лексикон рассматривается на уровне возвышенного и сниженного стилистических регистров современных английского и украинского языков. В сравнении приведены процентные подсчеты лексических единиц, использованных в каждом жанре диалога, на основе чего сделан общий вывод об использовании лексики во всем виртуальном формате этнической коммуникации.

The article focuses on phenomenon of virtual communities. The author considers if communities functioning in cyberspace can be perceived in categories of so–called organic communities, inhabiting specific geographical territory. Presenting empirical data obtained as a result of ethnographic study on the online community, describes determinants of cultural identity of this particular community such as the value system, patterns of behavior, language and communication. The article also analyzes selected social processes taking place in the online community. Indirect aim of the paper is an attempt to apply the social worlds theory in cyberspace.

Artykuł skupia uwagę na zjawisku społeczności wirtualnych. Autorka stawia pytanie, czy wspólnoty funkcjonujące w cyberprzestrzeni mogą być postrzegane w kategoriach tak zwanych społeczności organicznych, zajmujących określone terytorium geograficzne. Prezentując materiał empiryczny uzyskany w wyniku przeprowadzenia badań etnograficznych nad wspólnotą skupioną wokół internetowego forum, przedstawia kulturowe wyznaczniki tożsamości tej konkretnej społeczności takie jak system wartości, wzorce zachowań, język oraz sposoby komunikacji. Podejmuje również analizę wybranych procesów społecznych zachodzących w internetowej wspólnocie. Pośrednim celem pracy jest próba aplikacji teorii społecznych światów w środowisku wirtualnym.

The article concerns the concept of history of the market and the concept of theft (perceived in the broad sense), earlier presented and related to each other in the P. Prodi’s book Settimo non rubare. Furto e mercato nella storia dell’Occidente. The article recalls the sources and main points of reference of Prodi’s ideas: the concept of the specificity of Western civilization as defined by M. Weber, H. Berman’s concept of the „papal revolution”, the notions furtum and restitutio in canon law. The perspectives for the continuation of Prodi’s thoughts in the field of the history of ideas, the history of philosophy and the history of law are discussed. Prodi’s comments on contemporary social changes in the light of the discussed ideas. are also referred to. The significance of different meanings of the term forum is underlined.

Prezentowane są źródła i główne punkty odniesienia idei Prodiego (koncepcja specyfiki cywilizacji zachodniej w ujęciu M. Webera, koncepcja „rewolucji papieskiej” H. Bermana, pojmowanie kradzieży i obowiązku restytucji w prawie kanonicznym), oraz perspektywy kontynuacji jego myśli na polu historii idei, historii filozofii i historii prawa, a także uwagi o współczesnych przemianach społecznych w świetle dyskutowanych koncepcji. In the article, the topic of the medieval „discovering” of the market is discussed, with the references to the Paolo Prodis’ book Settimo non rubare. Furto e mercato nella storia dell’Occidente. The author of the book, following Harold Berman, finds the changes in the 11th and 12th century Church, as the decisive mile stones in the development of the civilization of Western Christianity. The mentioned „papal revolution” led to the historical distinction between the spiritual and the political sphere, and later, to the autonomy of economic one. Accordingly, the Italian historian rejects the thesis that Enlightenment was the new beginning in the European history. In the P. Prodi’s analysis, the Latin term forum plays the crucial role. The word signified the place, square, especially the place where court proceedings occurred. Therefore, in the later abstract sense forum signified criteria or rules of judgement: both in the juridical meaning (forum civile, f. canonico, f. consciantiae), and the economic one, in which forum meant exactly „the market”. The “discovering” of the market rules was a consequence the development of the theoretical reasoning about mercantile activity. It was essentially related to the concepts of the just price (iustum pretium) and the common estimation (communis aestimatio). According to P. Prodi the common character of the estimation was of essential importance, as well as the new version of the Roman rule Res tantum valet, quantum vendi potest, with the medevial addendum: scilicet communiter. The author criticised the view, that the process of defining of the market was mainly the result of reception of Aristotelian Ethics and Politics. He underlined that in the penitential handbooks of the 12th and 13th century the focus was significantly shifted from the vice of avarice to the commandment „You shall not steal”; moreover the significant violation of the rules of fair market exchange begun to be considered as a sin against this commandment. In the article, the significance of the application of the notion forum commune by Thomas Aquinas (in the treatise on credit sale) was underlined. The interconnection between the concept of the market and the idea of common good was expressed in the juxtaposition of terms: forum commune – bonum commune. M. W. Bukała observes that the thesis about the limited influence of Aristotelian thought on the examined issue can be additionally confirmed by the analysis of the Article on mercantile profit in Summa Theologiae by St. Thomas (II-II, q. 77, a. 4), where Aquinas distances himself from the Philosopher’s view. The P. Prodi discourses were amended by the significant distinction: not every violation of ethics of economic life was considered as the theft by the medieval moralists – e.g.: the determinatio of the casus of buying grain with the deferred delivery for an undercut price, in canon „Naviganti” (X 5.5.19, 2do), and in the related comments of the 13th century canonist, Clarus Florentinus. Moreover, the Jacques Le Goff’s critique of the Prodi’s approach was undermined.

Nadawcy społeczni mają obowiązek emisji audycji o treściach prospołecznych i zgodnych z profilem swej działalności, a estetyka ich przekazów jest konwencjonalna. Aby sprawdzić zasadność tych założeń, poddano jakościowej analizie filmy: The Perfect Wave (Idealna fala), Nasze dzikie serca (Our Wild Hearts) i drugą część serialu When Calls the Heart (Głos serca) emitowane w TV Trwam. Okazało się, że podejmują m.in. tematy: górnictwa, sądownictwa, ojcostwa, ekologii, funkcjonowania służb publicznych. Dokumenty recepcji wskazują na życzliwy odbiór. Sprzeciwy budzi konwencjonalna estetyka tych filmów, rzadziej przesłania religijne i społeczne.

Community broadcasters are obliged to emit pro-social programs in line with their profile, however the aesthetics of their programs and messages is traditional and conventional. To test this assumption, the second season of the TV movies: The Perfect Wave, Nasze dzikie serca and series When Calls the Heart were subjected to qualitative analysis. It was found that they addressed issues of: mining, fatherhood, ecology, and functioning of public services. Analysis of reception indicated a favourable response. Conventional aesthetics of the movies, not so much their religious and social messages, was found to be objectionable by some viewers.
