The text is devoted to car nicknames. The author analyzes the material collected using a survey method. A linguistic (onomastic) and cultural analysis has been carried out. The most important question concerns the function of car nicknames. Due to the fact that these names usually do not distinguish objects (in the family there is often only one car), the main function the author points out is the incorporative one.

Příspěvek je věnován přezdívkám automobilů. Autor analyzuje materiál získaný anketní metodou. Podává lingvistickou (onomastickou) a kulturní analýzu.

The aim of this article is to examine the functions of characters’ proper names in Men at Arms by Terry Pratchett - a second novel in the City Watch Cycle. The study is based on the theory of "Two Acts" which divides the analysed functions into the permanent and the momentary. The first are identified, defined and discussed on the basis of the naming act in Men at Arms and the latter undergo an analogous process on the basis of the act of using a name in the novel.

The study deals with the status and function of names of railway stations and stops with purely proprial function. It is possible to distinguish two main categories of these names. The first category is formed by names without a proprial modifier - they have dominant orientational function. The second category contains distinguishing proprial modifier and can be sorted to two basic subtypes. The first subtype is represented by names constituted from two proprial component, the second of which can be an oikonym, anoikonym, urbanonym or a name of a human products (chrematonym). These names have a dominant orientational and distinguishing function. The second subtype consists of names that are not in compliance with the official form of motivating toponyms. These names have a dominant orientational function and also distinguishing and pseudodistinguishing function.

Although the Czech language has two forms of infinitive (active and passive) in its morphological paradigm, infinitive constructions can be found where this opposition is not employed and the active vs. passive interpretation depends on the context. This article focuses on active infinitives which convey meanings primarily expressed by passive infinitives. The verbs which govern such infinitives are divided into several classes: (a) potřebovat [to need], zasluhovat [to deserve], (b) verbs of movement, such as poslat [to send], přinést [to bring], odvézt [to take away], (c) žádat [to require], odmítat [to refuse]. The competition between the active forms of the infinitive and the analytic passive forms, coreference between the valency members of the governing verbs and the hidden valency member of the infinitive are analyzed. Quantitative insights into how the phenomenon under study is represented in the Czech National Corpus are provided. The article concludes with a terminological proposal to complete the system of functions in the domain of infinitive constructions.
