The general clauses are an important part of a legislator’s workshop. Their functions o er him a wide range of opportunities. Unfortunately, there is a danger of misuse of the general clauses. The paper is an attempt at presenting the functions of general clauses in normative canonical texts – Code of Canon Law 1983 as an example. First, de nition of a general clause is formulated, and, next, the demonstrations clauses are assigned to functions known from polish jurisprudence. At the end of the paper some postulates and guiding rules for a church legislator are formulated.

Klauzule generalne są ważną częścią warsztatu prawodawcy. Ich funkcje dają szerokie możliwości. Niestety, istnieje niebezpieczeństwo błędnego użycia klauzul generalnych. Artykuł jest próbą pokazania ich funkcji w normatywnych tekstach na przykładzie kodeksu prawa kanonicznego 1983. Na początku sformułowano de nicję klauzul generalnych, a następnie ukazano klauzule w odniesieniu do funkcji znanych z polskiego prawoznawstwa. Artykuł kończą postulaty i wskazówki dla kościelnego prawodawcy.
