The assurance of the complete humanity of people with intellectual disabilities is well grounded in the teaching of the Catholic Church. On the other hand the majority nof the statements of the Magisterium regarding the substance of humanity seem to take no account of people with intellectual disabilities. The notions of human rationality and freedom appear to be particularly problematic in this context. This study, firmly embedded in the teaching of the Catholic Church and employing arguments from its wealth, aims to demonstrate people with profound intellectual disabilities as fully endowed with and able to actualise humanity in its fullest.

Twierdzenie o pełnym człowieczeństwie osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną jest dobrze ugruntowane w nauczaniu Kościoła katolickiego. Z drugiej strony wydaje się, że większość wypowiedzi Magisterium dotyczących istoty człowieczeństwa w żaden sposób nie odnosi się do osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. Szczególnie problematyczne są wątki dotyczące rozumności i wolności człowieka. Niniejszy tekst opierając się na nauczaniu Kościoła katolickiego i czerpiąc z niego argumenty, chce ukazać osoby z głęboką niepełnosprawnością intelektualną jako posiadające i realizujące pełnię człowieczeństwa

Ojcostwo stanowi tematykę podejmowaną coraz częściej przez współczesnych badaczy i teoretyków. Podkreśla się znaczenie ojca we wszystkich obszarach rozwoju dziecka, także obarczonego niepełnosprawnością. W niniejszym tekście przedmiotem dociekań naukowo-badawczych uczyniono szczególny rodzaj ojcostwa, realizowanego wobec dziecka z głęboką niepełnosprawnością intelektualną. W artykule zostało przedstawione studium etnograficzne ukazujące zachowania, działania, reakcje, interakcje ojców ukierunkowane na proces opieki i edukacji dzieci i młodzieży uczęszczających do zespołów rewalidacyjno-wychowawczych w placówce ku temu powołanej. Efektem analizy zebranego materiału usytuowanego w kontekście społecznym oraz zestawionego w dyskusji z wynikami uzyskanymi przez innych badaczy jest teoria średniego zasięgu odnosząca się do kompetencji opiekuńczych, zaangażowania w proces wychowania, zadaniowego stylu radzenia sobie z trudnościami przez opisywanych ojców, pomimo doświadczanego stresu oraz negatywnych emocji towarzyszących ich rodzicielstwu.

Fatherhood is a subject discussed more and more often by contemporary researchers and theorists. The importance of the father in all areas of child development, including the development of children with disabilities, is emphasized. The research presented in this article is devoted to a special kind of fatherhood – that is being the father of a child with profound intellectual disability. The article presents an ethnographic study showing fathers’ behaviors, actions, reactions, and interactions focused on the process of care and education for children and youth in rehabilitation and education groups in special settings. The collected material placed in a social context was analyzed, discussed and compared with other researchers’ findings. The result was middle-range theory relating to the fathers’ care-providing skills, involvement in upbringing, and task-oriented coping despite the stress and negative emotions they experience in their parenthood.
