A hero, one of the most outstanding officers of the anti-German underground in Poland, general Fieldorf, 26 X 1947, returned to Poland from Soviet labour camps in the Urals with damaged health. He was there as a result of being accidentally arrested by NKWD. The Soviets did not know his real surname. On 4 II 1948 r. “Nil” revealed his identity in front of the army authorities. He was invigilated, and, later on (9 XI 1950 r.) arrested. The inquiry was conducted in Warsaw in the prison in Mokotów. The communists were afraid of outstanding patriots as they could disagree with the enslavement of Poland by the USSR. So they were potentially dangerous for the communist regime. In 1952 Fieldorf was sentenced to death by the courts of the first and second instances. The requests to pardon him were not taken into account. The court murder was executed on 24 February 1953. The place of “Nil”’s burial has been unknown until today. Fieldorf’s case is an exaggerated example of eliminating those (Polish patriots) who are not guilty and constituted an obstacle for constituting the communist system. There were the attempts to rehabilitate Fieldorf in 1958. However, it was made possible as late as in 1989.
