This study focuses on the history of the detective story genre, but its aim is not to reformulate the "objective" history of the genre, based on a text-centred analysis, but to enhance it by including the reception aspect in order to provide a model highlighting the "subjective" element of the genre, which we refer to as genre awareness. We chart its development by means of surveys of the reception response to works, on the basis of which we construct nodal points in the genesis of awareness, resulting in the stabilization of the specific genre within the environment of Czech literary culture, which is understood in the broad sense to involve texts communicated in Czech, both original and in translation.

Studie se zaměřuje na dějiny detektivního žánru, jejím cílem však není reformulování "objektivních" dějin žánru, založených na textostředné analýze, ale spíše jejich obohacení o dimenzi recepce. Výsledkem je tak model akcentující "subjektivní" složku žánru, kterou nazýváme žánrové povědomí. Jeho vývoj mapujeme prostřednictvím sond do recepčního ohlasu děl, na jejichž základě konstruujeme uzlové body geneze povědomí, jejichž výsledkem je ustálení konkrétního žánru v prostředí české literární kultury. Tu chápeme v širokém slova smyslu jako česky komunikované texty, a to jak původní, tak překladové.
