Rejestr pospolitego ruszenia księstw oświęcimskiego i zatorskiego z 18 października 1621 roku

The edited source is an unknown record of the general levy in the Duchies of Oświęcim and Zator, drawn up on 18 October 1621 near Lviv. Registries of conscription are primary research sources to study organization, size and functioning of pospolite ruszenie (a specific, old-Polish form of general levy). They reveal valuable data according to districts, territories and provinces. So far, it has been the only registry from the province of Kraków from the period of Chocim war in 1621. The source indicates that the obligation to appear in arms was personally fulfilled by 67 nobles, 26 nobles issued detachments (though did not participate in the expedition in person), 19 detachments were sent by widows who supervised husbandly lands, two villages inhabited by a number of minor gentry issued 2 horses, while 3 cities situated within the two duchies, i.e. Oświęcim, Kęty and Wadowice provided a total of 13 infantry soldiers.

         Przedmiotem edycji źródłowej jest nieznany dotąd rejestr pospolitego ruszenia księstw oświęcimskiego i zatorskiego spisany 18 października 1621 r. pod Lwowem w związku z przeprowadzonym popisem. Jak wiadomo, rejestry z popisów stanowią podstawowy rodzaj źródeł służący, badaniu organizacji, liczebności i funkcjonowania pospolitego ruszenia w dawnej Polsce. Ich wartość polega przede wszystkim na ukazaniu organizacji i liczebności pospolitego ruszenia powiatów, ziem i województw. Publikowany rejestr jest jedynym dotąd rejestrem pospolitego ruszenia z terenu województwa krakowskiego z okresu wojny chocimskiej 1621 r. Według niego obowiązek stawienia się w pospolitym ruszeniu osobiście wypełniło 67 szlachciców, 26 wystawiło poczty, ale nie brało osobistego udziału w wyprawie, 19 pocztów przysłały wdowy w związku z użytkowaniem dóbr mężowskich, z zamieszkanych przez drobną szlachtę dwu wsi wystawiono 2 konie, natomiast 3 miasta położone w obrębie obu księstw, tj. Oświęcim, Kęty i Wadowice dostarczyły łącznie 13 pieszych.
